The Buffalo's that CC has every month run DD-WRT just fine and they're cheap. It takes some shenanigans to get it to load the unsigned firmware, but it's not that bad for what you get.

I have a Linksys wrt54gs with dd-wrt v23 sp2 micro on it right now. don't need it. has been working fine for the last 6months.
