in this case my harddrive... DMI (or something im on very little sleep today) pool error.... result - it can't find the boot part of the windows install

plus side i still have a fully functional volume of win2k on a separate (previously disconnected) HD so at least I'm able to recover a few tid bits from it....

chkdsk found an issue at first but then i ran chkdsk /R and later checks don't throw any errors.... but the bootcfg /scan (or rebuild for that matter) still don't want to work.... should i FIXMBR ? or just wipe it and reinstall?

well i found out i might not have to do anything but reset config in the bios.... clear the cmos.... and/or remove all devices and get it to boot...

i will be very pleased if this works

I'm in the process of recovering a hard drive ... this thing was about toast.

So far of the first 600 sectors out of 78 million, 196 were bad and recovered this might take a while.
