is there anyway to like get insurance on it?essentially i'm just wondering if theres any possible way to get a new laptop...i'm willing to pay a fee, cause anything would be better than what i got now

if it's 5 years old, you won't be able to get any sort of insurance or repair/replacement coverage from the manufacturer, at least not as an individual. if you were a corporation with hundreds of machines, that'd be different.the only other possibility you have is if you have renter's insurance, and it covers your computer. that likely won't cover machine failure, however.my advice, in your case, would probably be to keep regular backups of your data, and just be keeping an eye on inexpensive computer deals from dell, gateway, HP and the like.

you can try to tack the laptop onto your home owners association insurance as a personal asset, but they'd probably send someone out to access the value of the said laptop, which is probably worth $5.

I have a 4 year old dell laptop and it's still under warranty. In fact the warranty has already paid for itself a few times. Got 2 new power adapters, 2 new sound cards, and a new HD. Most of it was my fault, but it was still all covered. Plus you don't even have to deal with talking to an indian tech dude on the phone. You can go online now on dell chat and chat with an indian tech online. Little easier to understand in my opinion, compared to on the phone. Parts came within 48 hours. Dells about the only warranty i've ever used on something, just cause i take my laptop everywhere and do crazy shit with it in my bookbag.[Edited on July 31, 2007 at 1:55 AM. Reason : .]
