Any suggestions? I'll be going next February on my honeymoon there. It's by far the safest and most stable of the central American nations and the climate is nice and tropical, even in the winter months. I also did my share of surfing throughout high school and really want to surf down in costa rica, one of the best spots in the western hemisphere.Anyone been to Costa Rica? What cities should I visit?

Coincidentally I have been reading Jimmy Buffett's A Pirate Looks at Fifty and he was raving about the surfing and fishing in Quepos.

I, too, hate the rain forest. There are over 800,000 things in the rain forest that cause cancer. Please, help stop the rain forest before it's too late.

I went last year over fall break to Costa Rica with my girlfriend at the time. We stayed at the Fiesta Premier Resort which was in the Gulf of Papagayo in Guanacaste. We flew into Liberia and from there it's only about a 45 min ride to the resort. It's an all inclusive place with an excellent view of their private beach. They have a wide range of amenities including three tiered pool, outdoor and swim up bar, spa, and places to schedule adventure tours and other activities. Their staff their is incredible too and know how to make everyone have a very good time. If it is something that you are interested in, I can send you some pictures from when I was down there.

if agentlion is the person I'm thinking of, I was the one that inspired them to go to Costa Rica with my thread when I studied abroad there in 2004I just bought my plane ticket yesterday to go there on an 8 day vacation next month. I can't wait to get to Tortuguero this time and see the sea turtles nesting there. A trip to the top of Volcan Arenal and Class IV whitewater rafting on the Rio Pacuare are also on my agenda.

Not sure about the most stable, as Panama is economically better off, in addition to safety. Nonetheless, You'll really only surf on the Pacific coast. From Dominical north to Jaco/Quepos are great breaks. I recall a break called Hermosa that was pumpin' when I was there. You'll love it, just watch out for the cattle on the roads.

there's parts of panama where the guerillas are worse then in Columbia, and I've been told this from Panamanians before

I´m in La Fortuna right now and I just saw lava flowing down a Arenal Volcano and then went to the hot springs where I drank, ate fajitas, and took a giant water slide into the water. This was a great day!!!

aha, cool. i want to go back.... here's some of our pics from the La Fortuna waterfalls, Volcano Arena, and Tabacon hot sprints at the foot of the volcano a couple years ago.lava coming down the volcano. It was actually bright red, but I couldn't capture that on my camerathe volcano in the background. It's perpetually smoking. If the lava flow is light, you can only see it at nightnatural hot springs, ~130F i thinkLa Fortuna Falls, near Arenal
