I have read Wiki HOWTOs for hours and tried many methods, but I can't get this to work. So far I've tried using the fglrx driver and the SGI (mesa) driver. The fglrx driver crashes when I try to switch to beryl. The wiki I just read to use AIGLX with the 9600 says that if my card is not supported for Direct Rendering, I'll have to use fglrx and won't be able to use AIGLX.Has anyone got this working using this card, or can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

I got it working on my ATI card, but the best advice I can give you is don't do it. The fglrx driver is the best driver for your card. Using Beryl on my ATI card just resulted in lots of random lock-ups. Beryl should run using the generic ATI driver (aptly called 'ati'). Beryl also supports indirect rendering FYI. I just replaced it with a 512MB GeForce 8500. Everything is 1000x better.

Yeah I have come to that conclusion at this point as well. The eye candy is pretty but I'm sure it would wear off soon. I don't know how well my computer would handle it anyway - it's a Athlon 1800+ w/ 512mb DDR and the motherboard is only AGP 4x. Thanks for your response.
