Where should I go to get my cat chipped? I remember a few years ago there were competing technologies and some pets got chips that most shelters can't read. What kind should I get? Now that I have a ground floor apartment I think it's only a matter of time before one of them makes a run for the door when I'm not looking.

The clinic I work at in Carrboro uses Home Again chips. We have a universal scanner so we can detect other kinds, but use Home Again. I know that the Orange County Animal Shelter can detect Home Again chips as well b/c they contacted my friend after she lost her dog b/c of it.At Carrboro Plaza Vet Clinic they recommend, if your pet is going under anesthesia anyways like for a surgery, spay, neuter, or dental work that you do a chip then if you're ever planning on doing a chip… just b/c it’s a big needle and can be a little painful. But it can be and is often done in regular appointments without anesthesia. We have our own charge for microchipping, but there’s still an additional $10 mail in registration fee that the client does after the appointment which is important not to forget to do.http://www.homeagain.com/

Why don't you just put a bomb belt on your cat like in Swordfish?Sure it would be hard to explain to a cat, but once it understood it wouldn't fuck with you.

the only microchips that i've heard of not scanning everywhere are the banfield onesHome Again chips are the most popular and common. You register it with Home Again ($10 fee) and/or another registry. I registered my chips with the AKC CAR (companion animal recovery) as well as Home Again. It was an additional $10 or $12 but worth it to me. You can update all your information online. You can order extra tags if your dog is like one of mine and looses them all the time. HomeAgain are yellow, AKC CAR are blue. Make sure you havThere are often clinics where you can get an animal microchipped for around $25. At a vet it's going to run you on average $75-$100.I recommend going to a clinic if the animal is already fixed. Otherwise have it done when the animal is under for surgery. It is a big needle. 2 of mine were chipped at a clinic and they didn't seem to be any more bothered by the needle than a normal vaccine. To find out about the clinics call/ask around to different rescues, the SPCA, animal control, vets, etc... There is usually one a month somewhere in or around Raleigh. You can probably search online as well...
