That said, I was about 20 feet off on that one. I've been planning to take plenty of new shots of that area once the construction settles down.

It's coming. 3D models, photos of the ruins, you name it. I noticed they've recently graded away most of the building's remnants now.

I like the slider and the fade to the current day. Do you have any court of the Carolina pictures before they took out the freakin' hill? I can't tell from the pic you had but I think that would be a cool now and then to add especially if you had people sliding down them after one of the hurricanes...lol

OMG!

I got this from the website of that book. Anyone who is in aerospace will recognize this engine, it has been laying in the propulsion lab in Broughton for (up until just now) God knows how long. I remember asking a few of the instructors (Stearns and Dr. Dej for you aeros) how long it had been there and both of them had no clue. It's so weird to see it in such good condition!

Here's the special collections link

http://www.lib.ncsu.edu/specialcollections/

more specifically:

http://tinyurl.com/yu7djk

make sure your popup blocker is OFF for http://insight.lib.ncsu.edu/

i also have a pic or two in my gallery under 'old school nc state' but most of them came from the same sources...special collections, agromeck and 'north carolina state university: a pictorial history'

and every other thursday in summer technician, i run an old-ass picture of nc state that quasi relates to the edit topic, ie last week they were talking about the new campus golf course, so i ran a pic of centennial campus from 1986 when it was all forest

^I noticed that pic in The Technician.

The site now works with Safari version 3(the only version I can test on a Windows machine). If you looked at the site before, be sure to clear your browser cache and try again. It takes about 5 seconds to work for me. Thanks for catching that guys.

i have "a bridge to the future" checked out from dh hill cause i was using it for some technician stuff

there's a reserve on it now, so i know one of you people on here is probably trying to check it out

imma return it at some point cause i just needed it for a day, but just so you know...

...if i had to pick the best "nc state history" book it would be:

Quote :
"Author: Downs, Murray Scott.
Title: North Carolina State University : a pictorial history / by Murray Scott Downs and Burton F. Beers.

LD3928 .D69 1986"

and it's companion book

Quote :
"Reagan, Alice E. (Alice Elizabeth), 1956-
Title: North Carolina State University, a narrative history / by Alice Elizabeth Reagan."

LD3928 .R42 1987[/quote]

and this one is pretty dang good, too:

http://www.amazon.com/North-Carolina-University-College-History/dp/0738518166

here are some other good books:

Raleigh-Durham

Doesn't appear to be a lot of trees back then; at least not compared to today's pictures.

Were they still using them for firewood?
