Alright, so I just bought this LG phone, the Alltel variety, and I'm curious if any of you know how to get content onto the pone itself. What I am trying to do is put some ringtones on the phone from my PC, and images would be nice too.

The manual doesn't really explain this, and perhaps this is some homebrew stuff, but if anyone knows how to do this I would really appreciate some assistance. Thanks!

Just found out that you can email ringtones to your phone to the verizon 8600:

1. Create a .mp3 ringtone* on your computer.

2. Rename it to a .qcp file.

3. Send the .qcp file as an attachment in an email to YOURPHONENUMBER@vzwpix.com

3. Open the pix message; under “Options”, select “Save as ringtone”.

I found out the email address to send for Alltel (PHONENUMBER@message.alltel.com), but I can't figure out how to save the file as a ringtone. Anyone have any ideas here?

I have a LG VX8300. It's very similar in features and set up to the 8600, just the 86 is skinnier and sleeker.

That said, I use BitPim. I bought the music kit from Verizon (can probably find a data cable by itself cheaper online). This way I can connect my phone to the PC and do everything you want and more.

Honestly this is your best bet. It lets you access your contacts, ringtones, music, text messages, pictures, etc all on your PC. This way you can take stuff off your phone (like pics) but still save them on your computer. Meanwhile you can transfer all that stuff to your phone and customize things how you want, without ever paying fees for transfering stuff.

Seems like there is a way to do this by only using a micro SD card. I am going to try it sometime after work, but maybe this will help some of you dudes out:

1. Insert a Micro SD card into the phone. This will create a folder on the card called LG_MEDIA.

2. Wait 30 seconds, and remove the card. (You only have to wait for the card to be formatted once. After this first time you can eject it whenever.)

3. Use a card reader to read the information from the card on a PC. When browsing the card you should see a folder called other_sounds located in LG_Media.

4. Copy your 20-30 second edited MP3 into the other_sounds folder from your computer.

5. Remove the card from the PC, and insert it back into the phone.

6. Go into Menu, My Media, Audio, Downloaded. You should be able to see the file that was copied to the card

7. You then need to copy the file to the phone. This is done by highlighting the ringtone, push the options softkey, move, to phone.

8. After the file is moved to the phone, you can assign it as a ringtone.

^ Just letting you guys know I did this tonight and it worked perfectly. SO you can get sounds, ringtones, etc. without needing to use bitpin or even needing a cable, as long as you have an microSD card, and a way to read and write to the card of coarse.
