They played a show near Baltimore tonight backed by the motherfucking Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. It was quite possibly the best show I have been to, and they should release orchestral versions of their songs post haste. And the chick in the band is the ugliest female I have ever seen.[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 10:43 PM. The decemberists aren't exactly a supergroup.
7/14/2007 11:05:54 PM
at bonnaroo this year mavis staples played a few songs with decemberists.that was sorta cool.they played the weight by the band.. that was hottheir set didnt translate to the 2nd largest stage int he middle of the afternoon there very well however[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 11:08 PM. Reason : omg]

Is there a live recording?I bet it sounds awesome with that orchestra in there.
7/14/2007 11:16:05 PM
I saw them last night in Atlanta. It was awesome... beautiful with the orchestra... but WAY too short. It lasted seriously an hour and some change... 90 minutes max. "I Was Meant for the Stage" and "The Tain" were the highlights. Lowjack, did they play the same setlist as they've been doing for the other orchestra shows?
7/14/2007 11:16:53 PM
The orchestra gave them a very grandiose sound that was good for this outdoor venue. This show was 2 hours, but there was an intermission. ^I don't know about the set list.Yeah, it was similar to:The Crane WifeThe InfantaWe Both Go Down TogetherBagman’s GambitOdalisquePerfect Crime #2*Los Angeles I’m YoursThe TainO Valencia*I Was Meant for the StageThey played Mariner's Revenge for the encore. Our O Valencia was w/ orchestra[Edited on July 14, 2007 at 11:24 PM. Reason : dfs]

The Atlanta one had those plus 16 military wives (w/o orchestra).

Also, the show was by no means a sellout. Capacity was 16000, but a large swath of the middle seats were empty because they were expensive as hell. The cheap indie kids sat on the lawn. The few of us who had seats in the back were able to move up to the baller middle seats no problem.

I'm hoping to go to the Central Park show on Monday
7/15/2007 12:09:07 AM
^^ yeah, I was amazed at how empty the atlanta show was also. My girlfriend and I had the whole row to ourselves, and we could've easily moved up to empty closer seats

$50+ tickets cut into the budget for black-rimmed glasses, canvas shoes, and tight ass dickies.

Haha
7/15/2007 5:37:01 AM
^^ my ticket was actually only 21 bucks

I saw em at bonnaroo, hadn't really listened to their set but i enjoyed it.and I was really close to the stage as i'd been waiting there since 1:00 for the White Stripes and Wolfmother. so i can't really comment on the whole "didn't fill the 2nd biggest stage" comments
7/15/2007 11:39:04 AM
what i meant by that is that the show they put on translates better in an indoor theater as opposed to an outdoor venue in the middle of the afternoon.it's much better in a more intimate environment
7/15/2007 11:59:16 AM
ahhh yeah i can see that
7/15/2007 11:40:53 PM
fuck, how'd i miss that they played here last night with orchestra?balls[Edited on July 16, 2007 at 9:58 AM. Reason : e]
