so I have had blue screen errors popping up on my computer for a couple months now, and have had 2 in the past day and am getting tired of them. The first one read "STOP: 0X0000007B" and the second one read "STOP: 0X000000F4" and so I googled them, but the thing is, even after reading all microsofts tech support stuff, I have absolutely no idea of how to fix my computer. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Try to figure out what is running when it happens, or try to isolate things that could be causing it. What does Microsoft say those errors are referring to? (like drivers, hardware, what?) Also do you remember installing anything new when they started happening?

hate to say it but this is largely something you're gonna have to track down yourself, because it could be anything really and nobody knows your computer as well as you do I'd hope. I've had to do it a few times and bluescreens are absolutely horrible, especially when you lose something important, like a few hundred lines of code, or a long email or something.

fortunately, I havent lost anything knock on wood, but I am afraid somethings going to happen soon. the first error, 7B, the microsoft webpage said it could really be anything (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324103) so thats not really helping me, and I couldnt find the second error on that same site. I really have been running the same stuff everytime (aim, outlook and itunes) and I havent installed anything new recently, spyware comes up relatively clean, and no viruses, so I am absolutely clueless.

Computer still isnt getting better so as soon as tax free weekend rolls around, I'm buying a new one. Sticking with a dell, probably 1520 or 1521, but I have a processor question.

Which one would be better?

Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz,4MB L2 Cache,800MHz FSB)
or
AMD TurionTM 64 X2 Dual Core Processor TL-64 (2.2GHz,1600MHz,1MB Cache)

that will make it seem faster than the AMD even if the AMD is 64 bit

probably a memory error. Check your sticks of RAM by running Prime95 or something.

yea.. check the memory first.. prime95 or memtest86 are great tools.. if they check out fine.. then run HDD diagnostics to make sure the hdd isn't going bad..

is there anything after the hex value (the 0x###) like INVALID RESOURCE or something of that nature?

if the x07b is the "inaccessible boot volume", then your hdd is just about dead. If you can boot into windows, back up your data quick.

The AMD has a 1600 Mhz bus though, which compensates for the reduced cache (or the 4MB cache compensates for reduced bus speed).

But, the Cores are otherwise better designed, so they're faster/clock regardless, so go with the core 2 duo.

the cache is going to reduce wait cycles and that will make the most difference in apparent speed
