Anyone care? The dude is like 32 and supposed to "revive" soccer. Wasn't Freddy Adu supposed to do the same thing 2 or 3 years ago. We will hear more about Beckham's social life than his play on the field.

I played soccer for six years when I was younger, but stopped once I got to middle school. I've never followed pro soccer or seen a railhawks game. I would like to understand more about the sport, especially since it is so big worldwide. I think him coming will be great so maybe soccer will get more exposure on ESPN or ABC or FOX or whatever. I'm hoping that I will start to get more into it.
7/11/2007 10:16:14 PM
The main problem with American soccer coverage today is that ESPN and ABC have recently decided to replace all of their knowledgeable soccer broadcasters with guys who know nothing about the sport (see: O'Brien, Dave). The Galaxy don't have the supporting cast to base their play around giving Beckham what he needs (a middle third with clear options to his inside), so there won't be instant results, so no one will care.
7/12/2007 1:49:18 AM
i'm going to watch. i have an active interest in getting into futbol.
7/12/2007 1:56:39 AM
^^god, i hate games when he announces...i wish they would just get some british guys to announce games on espn or abc, it just seems right hearing them talk
7/12/2007 1:59:17 AM
I'm interested.
7/12/2007 7:15:55 AM
it could make soccer more popular until september when football starts. only because the only other options for sports are WNBA and baseball.
7/12/2007 7:50:53 AM
*Yawn*
7/12/2007 10:49:09 AM
Baseball > Soccer >>>>>>>>>>>>> WNBA
7/12/2007 11:05:57 AM
I think that it will have an impact, and it will provide the MLS with more attention and energy, but the MLS will never be what the EPL is. Only when soccer kids today grow up to be grandparents will there be a potential major interest in soccer.
7/12/2007 11:07:19 AM
I'm just ready to watch MLS games with sold out crowds, it makes the game 10 times better.
7/12/2007 11:25:18 AM
Don't get me wrong, I am a giant soccer fan and subscribe to digital cable in part because of FSN, but the MLS just doesn't compare to soccer outside of North America. Beckham coming is just a ploy to get more viewers for the MLS and to make it more "mainstream" since everyone knows who Beckham is. Unfortunately, American soccer won't catch on until we do well in a big tournament (ie: repeat what we did in Korea or even better).

7/12/2007 5:26:15 PM
if Ronaldinho were to play in the MLS it would be like me going and playing in an under 8 year old girls soccer league
7/12/2007 5:29:27 PM
better than current MLS...a bunch of 8 year old girls playing each other!!
7/12/2007 5:32:37 PM
The only soccer worth watching is the World Cup.
7/12/2007 5:49:13 PM
I love watching almost all of the European leagues and I'll definitely watch Chelsea-Beckham but I just can't get in to MLS...At least they have Tommy Smyth doing some of the MLS games but I don't get why Derek Rae doesn't... they are gold to listen to in the CL[Edited on July 12, 2007 at 6:36 PM. 7/12/2007 6:35:23 PM
^^ I don't watch soccer very often but I've watched enough to know that the World Cup is probably the most boring play I've seen.
7/12/2007 6:46:51 PM
oh come on, dirty euro trash flopping, flailing, and kicking each other in the shins doesn't do it for you?
7/12/2007 6:50:47 PM
EVEN THE FORIGNERS I PLAY RUGBY WITH DON'T GIVE A SHIT AND THEY ARE FROM THE UK WHEN SOCCER IS HUGE
7/13/2007 4:36:43 PM
