Wanted to branch off from the 'annoying espn personality' subject and pose this questionWhat things should never be shown on ESPN? I'm not gonna say hockey or soccer...even though they're not my favorite sports...THEY ARE SPORTS....here are a few I can think of that are not sports and should never ever be on ESPN- Eating Contests- Paper, Rock, Scissors- Spelling Bee- Pokerfeel free to add your suggestions]

i wonder what the E stands for
7/9/2007 5:27:58 PM
apparently you like all the horrid non-sports activities i just listed simply because the word entertainment is in their call letters
7/9/2007 5:28:57 PM
Stephen A. Smith
7/9/2007 5:29:42 PM
man, i was just flipping through last year and stopped in time to see a nationally sanctioned competition to see how quickly kids could stack and unstack cupsno jokehunterb2003, ncsupackman8, and prb185 can all attest to this if you don't believe me; because frankly, i wouldn't believe me either
i never said i liked any of that shitbut i understand why it's on the networkand i'm not about to make a stupid ass thread about it
7/9/2007 5:29:57 PM
7/9/2007 5:30:16 PM
ok, the cup stacking is sweet.
7/9/2007 5:30:44 PM
7/9/2007 5:30:55 PM
7/9/2007 5:31:18 PM
haha well if by 'sweet', you mean 'the lamest thing ever', then we're on the same page
7/9/2007 5:32:20 PM
7/9/2007 5:32:29 PM
baseball, racing, golf, etcobviously july sucks as as far as sports goes...but they are ESPN...they are a multibillion dollar company...they should be able to find something sports related to put on...hell even 'Playmakers' was about footall even though it was a soap operaoh btw:- Figure Skating]
7/9/2007 5:33:36 PM
there's always baseball on, and they should show it.i'd watch baseball all day.
7/9/2007 5:35:55 PM
7/9/2007 5:35:59 PM
well i'd rather them air more sportscenter or pti or something than paper, rock, scissors or an eating contest
7/9/2007 5:37:16 PM
yeah we need more shows like 1st and 10, jrib, pti, ath, sportscenteri meanlistening to the same topics discussed for 6 hours straight every afternoon just isn't enough
7/9/2007 5:38:48 PM
you're right, lets mix in some PAPER ROCK SCISSORS because playing that game when you were a kid just isnt enough
7/9/2007 5:41:41 PM
i'd watch paper rock scissors over skip bayless any day of the week
7/9/2007 5:43:09 PM
I find the Poker to be entertaining (and apparently so does the rest of the viewing public as it is one of the highest rated things ESPN shows), but here are some things I've seen that I can't see as entertaining or as a sport:- Mathletes- Scrabble- DominoesThe eating contests happen, what, once a year (Fourth of July)? Is that so bad?
7/9/2007 5:43:32 PM
^^yeah well at least sports have new stories that change...new developments...injuries...trades...off field arrests...new coaches...new recruits...rumorspaper rock scissors has 3 possible combinations...same 3 combinations its always had since forever
7/9/2007 5:44:53 PM
7/9/2007 5:45:21 PM
STEVE PHILLIPS IS EVERYTHING THAT IS WRONG WITH SPORTS
7/9/2007 5:47:16 PM
how do you figure?if you don't like him, that's fine, but would you put him below stephen a. smith? how about skip bayless?
7/9/2007 5:50:07 PM
smith and bayless are at least knowledgeable about their subject matterphillips is the kind of guy who looks down on players for 'clogging up the bases'
7/9/2007 5:54:25 PM
is that a serious post?
7/9/2007 5:57:48 PM
ESPN stands forEntertainment and Sometimes Poker Network
7/9/2007 6:28:14 PM
7/9/2007 6:35:05 PM
lol damn, the only guy who agrees w/ me is the one who hates nc.
7/9/2007 6:39:18 PM
Doesnt the E stand for 'Entire', not Entertainment?
7/9/2007 7:49:36 PM
no, entertainment and sports programming network.
7/9/2007 7:53:30 PM
No, ESPN stands for "Sports" in Spanish, right?
7/9/2007 8:11:05 PM
ESPN doesn't not officially stand for anything now.
7/9/2007 8:47:02 PM
kindof like dollars.
7/9/2007 8:50:04 PM
Scrabble tournaments. Yes, they had that on ESPN, with commentary. "Oh, he missed an opportunity to use all his letters. That's going to cost him."
7/10/2007 2:42:48 AM
i thought the scrabble was fairly interesting. i do like to play scrabble though.
7/10/2007 2:47:18 AM
i'll 3rd, 4th or 5th BASEBALL, I didn't really feel like finding who agreed earlier in the thread.b/c baseball has about as much action as your espn scrabble tournaments, spelling bee's, poker, etc. if i am trying to sleep and had to choose between watching an NCSU lecture whatever local channel they show them on and some baseball I am not sure which i would turn on first. At least they have had drug testing at NCSU for a lot longer than baseball..... (and i do like live baseball games btw)[Edited on July 10, 2007 at 6:05 AM. Reason : lol]
7/10/2007 6:04:08 AM
You clearly don't remember the early days of ESPN before they had any deals in place for the major pro sports leagues. It was ALL random shit like tractor pulls, cheerleading, etc. over the summer. they did have college sports, but beyond that it was a wasteland of randomness and NHL.
7/10/2007 9:57:03 AM
^and now they have those deals with all the big companies, so they dont really have any legit excuses for showing all their crap
7/10/2007 10:00:48 AM
i'm pretty usr ethere are other channels than just ESPN that show MLB games. They have to work out deals with the MLB to show games. They certainly can not afford to broadcast a continuous stream of games. Nor would the home markets be happy if suddenly WGN, TBS, et al. suddenly could not carry home baseball games to show to the public - instead everyone would have to have bacle to watch their team. But I'm sure you have some way to get ESPN the additional billion or so dollars they'd need a year to carry baseball games from noon until 2am, don't you?Nobody forces you to watch. Why don't you go outside instead of bitching up a storm over shit only you seem to care about.
7/10/2007 10:52:02 AM
well actually most people seem to agree with me...i guess you prefer paper, rock, scissors to watching hockey on espn
7/10/2007 10:57:46 AM
WORST THING EVER ON ESPN:The current "who's now" bullshit, gay ass list that is a complete waste of time and I am sick of seeing it on ESPN. As for the other stuff mentioned here, I like watching the hot dog eating contest and the World Series of Poker is good entertainment (poker shows on all other networks suck huge).
7/10/2007 11:06:37 AM
All I have to say is they need to bring back Magic: The Gathering
7/10/2007 11:10:06 AM
think of it from a business side....would you rather watch baseball between the brewers and the blue jays (two teams no one cares about outside of their perspective regions), or watch a fast paced (once a year) hot dog eating contest....
7/10/2007 2:01:42 PM
one day i caught some juggling on espnmade a thread about it to share and everyone had a great time
7/10/2007 2:10:48 PM
So, do they have a "celebs compete against one another with your favorite x-box 360 games" yet?
7/10/2007 3:08:08 PM
I opened up this thread thinking "This has to be about the Rock, Paper, Scissors crap that was on ESPN the other day"And I'm glad that I am not disappointed
7/10/2007 3:54:00 PM
7/10/2007 4:03:52 PM
i fell out of the baseball loop for a few years but i'm definitely back in it
