I happened to notice yesterday that there is a row of new Wolfline buses parked in the old Armory lot near frat court. Look to be about 20 of them, they appear to be New Flyer models. They also changed the paint scheme:While I like the old paint scheme better, actually, it'll be nice to have new buses. I wonder if these are going to replace all the old ones, or if any will be carried over so they can run more routes with a larger fleet? Either way, at least we should be rid of some of the crappy old "substitute" buses they've had to bring in the past couple of years.

they should run on BioWillie!
7/4/2007 12:47:49 PM
yay

http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=394164They look to be a bit longer. Hopefully, that means they're going to put some of these on routes like Avent Ferry in the morning, and enlarge the fleet, not replace a few buses.I was part of a discussion last semester about wolfline and centennial. The single biggest problem the wolfline has is lack of money = lack of buses = every other problem. Given that we were working with NCSU on something, it was pretty productive, but being told 'no, we don't anticipate service expanding in the next few years, due to lack of buses' is maddening as hell with Centennial exploding.

I suppose they could be 40' models and the older ones were 35'. However, the one thing that is a little deceiving about that picture is that I don't think they're as tall as the old buses either. If they're low floor models they don't need to be. No real way to tell without seeing them next to one of the older Blue Birds though.I also noticed that they appear to have the "kneeling bus" option, where they can air down the right-side suspension so elderly folks/kids/disabled folks can get onto the buses without having to step up. I don't know how much it'll get used on campus, but suppose it's a good thing to have.[Edited on July 4, 2007 at 1:42 PM. Reason : d]

home of the make-believe monorail.
7/5/2007 3:30:36 AM
what other kind are you going to build with make-believe money?
7/5/2007 5:53:08 AM
hell yeah new wolfline buses[Edited on July 5, 2007 at 10:37 AM. Reason : the drivers are going to abuse the hell out of those things]
7/5/2007 10:35:17 AM
now they'll be able to make that right turn at the tompkins hall stop even better. No one stops at that line for the buses like they should Go bluebirds!
7/5/2007 12:52:46 PM
i give it 9 hours, tops, between when they go into commission and when someone pukes in them
7/5/2007 1:46:49 PM
Maybe they'll let us get on and off using the back doors on these buses.
7/5/2007 6:13:22 PM
i'll be damned...i saw this like a week ago and was like so thats where they park them
7/5/2007 6:24:15 PM
I'll bet those new longer busses have trouble making turns.
7/5/2007 10:08:05 PM
They are to replace the entire fleet. They are forty feet while the thirty feet buses are El Doradoes. They can actually turn better than the bluebirds. Any other questions just ask.
7/5/2007 11:43:19 PM
what happened to the old bluebirds?
7/6/2007 10:52:17 AM
They are selling them off and sending some of them to a sister yard in South Carolina. They run bluebirds down there.
7/6/2007 10:59:18 AM
what are the approx miles on the long wheelbase and price?
7/6/2007 11:05:15 AM
They are anywhere from 180,000 to 200,000 milies. The prices I have no idea about.
7/6/2007 4:14:35 PM
The new fleet is now in service.
8/8/2007 10:10:46 PM
That's a little "w00t" right there.
8/8/2007 10:12:35 PM
Neat.
8/9/2007 12:20:44 AM
king bro how old were they....i see you said 180k -220k miles, so i'm trying to figure out about how many miles per year
8/9/2007 7:12:20 AM
Most were 8yrs old. 23k/yr, avg 115mi/day. The real killer isn't the miles, its the hours.
8/9/2007 8:17:39 PM
thanks for the info
8/9/2007 8:30:08 PM
They look good.

The Wolfline was on the news the other night. I missed the first part but they are running on a cleaner fuel source from like Natural Gas or something[Edited on August 10, 2007 at 6:15 PM. Reason : fsdfs]

I swear I just saw one of the old Wolfline buses driving around north raleigh with I think CAT painted in black on the front. Other than that it looked just like it always did, same paint job, I had to do a double take when I saw it rolling by because I was waaaaay of the wolfline routes
8/13/2007 5:31:18 PM
^I saw the same thing on Capital a few days ago. Guess CAT bought a couple to use as subs/spares/temp buses/whatnot.
8/13/2007 5:34:42 PM
haha i saw this just now on millbrook. they could of at least painted them.
8/13/2007 5:38:14 PM
^ saw that same bus on Leadmine about 20 minutes ago.. you can see where the Wolfline letters use to be.[Edited on August 13, 2007 at 6:00 PM. Reason : ]

Yeah, I just saw one of the retired wolfline busses painted w/ CAT downtown about 30 min ago. I had to do a double take on that one!
8/13/2007 8:41:36 PM
^ yeah saw one getting off Western to Pullen, I thought first "what did the wolfline start a new route?" then I saw a tiny "CAT" painted on it.At least it looks better then those BEEZER HOMES buses
8/14/2007 2:35:01 AM
^I saw one yesterday on Six Forks and said that exact same thing, but also with a "what the hell are they doing all the way out here?" [Edited on August 14, 2007 at 9:16 AM. Reason : ]
