nope.supposedly it's more painful when you're older, though. [Edited on June 27, 2007 at 10:38 PM. Reason : why do you need them removed? had strep several times?]

I had it done when I was a freshmen. Its probably not as painful as you think it will be but its just in a very uncomfortable place to have pain.I got a bunch of popsicles, the horse sized percocets the dog gave me, and posted up on the compute for a couple of weeks.

I had a tonsillectomy a few months ago - worse surgery I had ever been through - just don't think its easy because its really not, heres a post I wrote on a health board back thenI had my tonsillectomy last Wednesday, so now 4 days after surgery, and I'm 20 years old- I've had a really rough time with it, and I'm usually pretty good with pain. When I woke up from my surgery I was fine, the pain didn't bother me at all. I was driving that day, not taking any pain meds, of course. That night, I thought I was gonna die from not being able to sleep. I was so miserable, mostly from feeling like I was going to choke on my uvula and my tongue. My throat wasn't really bothering me. Over the past few days I didn't sleep well, and I haven't been able to eat anything really. The pain is dreadful now. I couldn't even eat mashed potatoes today, barely could drink water without wanting to cry. I'm drinking probably 20 bottles of water a day, but I'm on so much blood pressure medicine and diuretics that its running straight through me and I feel dehydrated. The amoxicillin is the nastiest tasting solution ever. I was given lortab solution, 4 days worth, and it hasnt helped my pain a bit, and I'm afraid to call my ENT because I don't want her to think I'm some drug addict trying to get pain medicine, even though what little she gave me didn't help. My right ear keeps ringing and feels like its swollen and the right side of my throat is extremely swollen. I'm hoping I do start to feel better, because if it gets worse when the scabs fall off, I'm going to die from this torture. I can barely open my mouth more than a few centimeters, thats how swollen I am. Now my jaws are locking up and my teeth hurt. I didn't think it would be this bad.Anyway, I ended up on Predisone liquid and Percocet liquid because I was in such pain. I'm usually immune to pain but this was just horrid. My pain went away after 2 weeks or so. My doctor told me that people our age have the worse problems with it because we talk so much. I think that was my problem, I talked all the time. Also, ice cream made me feel worse. I lost 15 lbs my first week because I couldn't eat or barely drink water. Just be prepared [Edited on June 27, 2007 at 11:14 PM. Reason : ]

Well I don't think I really meant to talk that much, I just didn't realize I did until the end of the day and my throat felt horrible. I have to take care of my grandparents and I have to raise my voice for them to hear me, so thats what really made it so bad.But seriously, it depends on the person. Like I said, I'm pretty immune to pain. I have spinal stenosis and 4 bulging disks which hurt so badly. I've gotten used to hurting due to this and I figured I could get through the surgery just fine. I had also had surgery like 3 months before (a laparascopy, hysteroscopy, and a D&C) to find out whether or not I had endometriosis, and that didn't hurt at all. But boy, those tonsils sure did seem important after they were gone.[Edited on June 27, 2007 at 11:51 PM. Reason : ]
