So yes this proves forever and amen that I am a complete fucking nerd, but I just posted a how-to video to make your own roto molding machine.

i'm intrigued by the idea of what was going on based on how long this video wasbut what in the living fuck was going on?

omg no money shot, wtf. you could have at least taken a picture.rotomolding: the slowest way to rapid protoyping!it's a process that results in a hollow molded product by basically tumbling plastic powder in a hot mold.whatcha makin' with it?

video was a waste of time, voted inappropriate to save others the boredom

^^That's extremely gay. ^Yea, unfortunately I'm recording with a 20 dollar all in one digital camcorder thing and it pretty much sucks all the way around for image and sound.I'll be posting high res stills and a complete article about this guy on snotmonkey in a few days or so

Maybe I missed something. What is the heat source?
6/26/2007 9:58:53 PM
no heat source. I use all RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) materials. so you are mixing a two part solution that chemically reacts to form a plastic, resin or rubber. have to be careful to mix very accurately and fully, but its a great way to make prototype parts in your home that are production ready.

I am down with this, G.

if you make your molds out of metal, you could use peltier units to heat the mold while it was rotating.
6/27/2007 11:54:59 AM
you could actually use like pewter or another very low temp metal and make a metal mold box with a heatplate inside.it would definitely take a while to rig it, but its definitely doable
