I am looking to buy a muscle car from the sixties or seventies to fix up. Anyone have any recommendations as to what to buy/ where? I am partial myself to dodge chargers, or a gto.

buy the best one you can afford, and be prepared for a shitton of work.

since you're partial to dodge you say, it's hard to beat an A body mopar. this includes your valient, dart, duster, demon, etc. still relatively cheap (they are starting to go up though). parts are cheap and easy to find, etc.post 1970 chargers aren't too bad yet, but good luck finding a 68-70 for a reasonable price. pre 68's are much better.

buy a VW!

my dream street sleeper was always a 1970 buick skylark

got a buddy has a tight charger for sale. can't recall the year, but its fast and runs good. Think he wants $8000. its carolina blue w/ stripes an black int.
6/20/2007 10:37:25 PM
well my budget at the moment would be around 2500.00
6/20/2007 10:48:56 PM
well youre done before you started then.
6/20/2007 10:50:41 PM
why is that?
6/20/2007 11:01:59 PM
that wont buy you much of anything.
6/20/2007 11:07:42 PM
It won't buy you much of anything as far as chargers, GTO, A-body GM's etc, but I would think something a little off the beaten path could still be had on that budget. A body mopar like BBR suggested, a Maverick or maybe a Fairlane or Torino, umm...are there any Vegas left? One of those would be a neat little car with a 350.... perhaps a lesser-known sibling of the Nova like a Ventura or Apollo... find one with a 6 or one of the lower-end V8's with a straight body, then go from there?

there was a running/driving 360/3 speed duster on CL for $1500 just a couple weeks ago. definitely expect to sink some after purchase money into something in that price range though.
6/20/2007 11:26:12 PM
yeah, i was expecting that. i am looking for a car that runs, but cosmetically/ performance wise it may not be so hot
6/20/2007 11:31:19 PM
looking for one to fix up, you might be better off with one that doesnt run and is in good shape.
6/20/2007 11:37:52 PM
please get a 60's econoline van and put a big motor in it
6/20/2007 11:51:03 PM
^^true. assuming you don't care about getting wild with the motor, it's generally cheaper to rebuild it or throw a crate motor in something than it is to do body/interior work.
6/20/2007 11:55:57 PM
yeah, crate motors arent too much, that is probably the best option

chevelle or mustang. chrysler parts are not cheap
6/21/2007 1:50:16 PM
yeah, you get what you pay for.
6/21/2007 2:05:32 PM
^^Hey dude, how's the drift career going?
6/21/2007 2:23:03 PM
^^ i could of been driving by now if i had a GM product. you can build a decent 350 for what i'll drop on valve train shit. harland sharp makes me [Edited on June 21, 2007 at 11:50 PM. Reason : ~]
6/21/2007 11:49:48 PM
then again, the 350 would be boring as hell...different is cool...unfortunately it's also $TEXAS
6/22/2007 10:07:37 AM
not all GM products are created equally inexpensive
