I've got a machine that reports 5GB of memory when it POSTs. But, when I get into windows and right-click on "my puter," it says the machine has 3.5GB of memory. the 5GB surprised me anyway, because I know that 32-bit XP can only address 4GB of memory, but the missing 512MB has me confused. there isn't an onboard video card, so i dunno what's goin on.

oh, and i don't feel like googlin, so anybody know what's going on?

Probably an incorrectly programmed or incorrectly interpreted SPD.

Yes, XP supports 4GB. But, it won't show you 4GB. Most people see between 3GB and 3.5GB. The OS can reserve up to 1GB depending on your machine.
