http://www.trojanwire.com/seems pretty ridiculous to have a kid committed to college before he knows where he is going to high school.

i watch PTI as well

exactly. i had no clue it was even legal to do thisI appreciate the call out instead of the opinion though[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 5:50 PM. Reason : asdf]

my opinion is, they're dumb for doing this, obviouslyand this kid will turn out to be a huge disgrace academically during his time in high school[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 5:52 PM. Reason : m,]

i am gonna laugh like crazy if this kid is a bust. my bet is that he starts smokin a lot of weed in HS.

I disagree with both of you. Nothing is different compared to any other profile recruit. They know they are going to play ball in college from 8th grade on.

yeah, but this kid is no longer being "recruited." he's already committed...before high schooli mean, sure, keep an eye on middle schoolers and freshman and whatnot.but to already offer and get a commitment from a middle schooler ...that's dumb for both parties.[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 6:06 PM. ^^there is less incentive to work hard when you already know you got that scholly in your back pocket[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 6:10 PM. Reason : ^]

14 year old kid staying humble after this...i think not
6/20/2007 6:19:12 PM
it's a verbal commitment. bttt this thread in 3 years with an update.

I think the same incentive is there, make the greats to get in to the college I'm going to go play basketball for. They have to do that either way. I'm not sure if there is a negative impact on this individual child....It is bad for schools and recruiting practice in general though.I went to high school with marcus melvin. Had him in a few classes, but won't claim to know him very well. He signed here pretty damn early in his high school career. It may be what kept him IN high school. This may or may not be true, but he was certainly more motivated in the classroom afterwards. For the other kids I have seen get scholarships, the scholarships motivated them to do better in school most of the time.[Edited on June 20, 2007 at 6:24 PM. As I recall Chris Leak committed to Wake Forest before he took a snap of High School football. Of course he reniged on that committment. Its not unheard of, but its highly suspect whats next elementary school, pre-school committments.
