Both have good reviews. The CHIMEI has a DVI-D cable. My real question is whether 30 cd/m2 and 100:1 contrast is going to be noticeable.Other suggestions in the 22"W $250 spec market will be considered. I'm upgrading from this BenQT903 monitor I bought on a slickdeal a couple years ago for $150.BenQ T903 Black 19" LCD Monitorhttp://www.superwarehouse.com/BenQ_T903_Black_19_LCD_Monitor/99.L0G72.EBA/p/624699Display Panel: 19" Color Active Matrix LCD (TFT) Resolution: 1280 x 1024 NativeContrast Ratio: 450:1Brightness (Typical): 250 cd/m²

30 cd/m2 and 100:1 contrast is worth the extra $7.

if you can afford the extra $50 I'd recommend a Samsung 226bw. Regular price is more but you can just about always find them for about 30022", 1680 x 1050, 1000:1, 3000:1 Dynamic, 2ms. I have one wall mounted with an arm and I'm very happy with it.There is a 5ms version for about $260http://tinyurl.com/2egmvla week or 2 ago tiger direct had them for 300 even after rebate.

Which is more important, brightness or contrast?the samsung has higher contrast, but lower brightness than the CHIMEIthe response time seems overrated. I dont even notice any ghosting on my BenQ, and it's got a terrible response rating (16 ms). I do, however, notice that the picture isn't as clear and bright as I would like.[Edited on June 18, 2007 at 5:22 PM. Reason : response time.][Edited on June 18, 2007 at 5:23 PM. Reason : kk]

I think at this point it's not so much which is more important but how bright do you really need it. I actually dim my samsung down. I keep it at about 75/100. If it will help in your decision you can take a look at mine in person if you want. For me contrast was more important. I use mine to watch movies and i use it for drawing/painting programs.
6/18/2007 5:31:15 PM
What's 1680x1050 look like on a 22"W? I want retarded clarity.
6/28/2007 10:44:47 AM
Clarity isn't about response time. It's about brightness and contrast. Also, Is there anything like Dells Ultrasharp Laptop screens for a desktop LCD?
6/28/2007 10:47:14 AM
^ Yes, their ultrasharp desktop monitors.Contrast is more importance than brightness.I buy Dell LCDs (ultrasharp series [1907fp, 2007fp, 2407fpw, etc...]). As far as I'm concerned, they're the best quality for the money.
6/28/2007 11:17:19 AM
^ Partly in response...http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productlisting.aspx?c=us&category_id=6761&cs=19&l=enI just got the dell 24 inch. 1920x12006ms response450 cd/m21000:1 contrast ratio. It's a great monitor, amazing clarity, and they just dropped the price from 669$ to 599$. Highly recommend the ultrasharp series.
6/28/2007 12:00:24 PM
No 22" ultrasharp screen?
6/28/2007 12:18:19 PM
^http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productlisting.aspx?c=us&category_id=6198&cs=19&l=en (on right side)I don't think it's technically the Dell ultrasharp line, but the specs are pretty similar. Contrast ratio isn't as high.I guess they're different cause the ultrasharp 20.1 inch is 399, and the normal 22 inch is 309. Oh another thing, my old 20.1 inch had a contrast ratio of 600:1 and my new 24 inch is 1000:1, and when you put them side by side, the 20.1 inchs whites looked yellow. I was going to use them as dual monitors, but the contrast was so different i sold the 20.1 inch, and decided on just the 24 inch. So just make sure if you ever do a dual monitor set up that both have the same, or close contrast ratio. [Edited on June 28, 2007 at 1:04 PM. Reason : .]

It's got the gloss screen, too. That's what I was looking for.Should be here monday. 8)[Edited on June 28, 2007 at 3:45 PM. Reason : $279.99 Shipped]

^yeah what exactly is the glossy finish? Screen is easier to see when it's light in the room? I don't remember.
6/28/2007 3:49:33 PM
Give's it more of a CRT feel.Apparently there's a slight wash for people sitting next to you, but for the guy in front of the monitor, it's crystal clear.

Nice. Good pick.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't acer/sony/samsung/dell/apple/viewsonic etc all use the same lcd panel? They just put thier own case on it? I just remember someone telling me that apple and dell use the same panel manufacturer, and heard only about 2-3 companies actually make the panels. With that said, Dell's ultrasharp series is the way to go. Thier customer support alone sold me. My audio port on my old 9100 laptop died, and i went online that night with dell online chat, and 2 days later they had someone at my house repairing the laptop. All included in the warranty.
7/2/2007 9:11:16 AM
so you are choosing a monitor because the company came out and fixed a broken port on your laptop?
7/2/2007 10:23:16 AM
lol not really. That's just an example. I've had this laptop for 3 years and thier customer support has been great. Not to mention i've bought 3 monitors from them and none of them have had any dead pixels or any issues at all. I was just recommending the ultrasharp series from dell because of the great support they have, and for the specs of the lcd. It's hard to find monitors with 1000:1 contrast ratios at that price. In fact if you go to http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010190020+1309821328&name=24%22and look at all the 24" monitors you won't really find that many that have the specs the ultrasharps do for the price (599$) of a 24". (brightness, viewing angles, contrast ratio, etc...)[Edited on July 2, 2007 at 10:39 AM. Reason : .]

What do you guys think of this Acer 22" non-hdcp widescreen? I'm thinking about going for it.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009102
7/2/2007 11:08:15 AM
Good choice, but this is even a better deal. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116076It's the exact same price and you get a 900:1 contrast ratio instead of 800:1, plus it's viewsonic instead of acer.
7/2/2007 11:55:05 AM
neodata: In large panels (aka lcd tv's) there are only a handful of manufacturers. Off the top of my head, Samsung, Hitachi (not sure if they even still make panels), LG, Sharp and some others. In the smaller panels there are a lot more people out there now, I think it's at least in the dozens now.
7/2/2007 12:01:05 PM
I got my monitor in today.1 dead pixel. Doesnt want to rub out.only noticeable on black backgrounds. I'm still really happy with my purchase. I'll RMA it once the dead pixel threshold is reached. This thing is sexy as hell.

Only problem, as some people have said, is that at this price you can run dual 22" Sceptres (even though its a shittier display). But DAMN, I really am about to go for it
7/2/2007 4:57:03 PM
^nice find. Yeah i'd rather have one 24 inch, then two 22" inches for resolution alone. On a 24" you can do full 1080p, whereas with a 20.1"/22" you only have a 1680 horizontal resolution. 1920 by 1200 is defin worth it. 400$ is a really nice price too.
7/2/2007 5:55:26 PM
That is a really nice screen. But I'm without a lot of desk space, so I'll probably have to go with the 24" in the end... darn...

BTTTMy bf has 3 19" CRT's, and I was thinking about getting him a couple LCD's to replace them. Any suggestions? Would like to spend ~$400
8/9/2007 10:37:52 AM
Does he want to stick with 4:3 or move to 16:10? I would suggest 2 22" or 2 24" instead of 3 19"s. Most lcds are moving toward 16:10 anyway. 22"s have dropped to around 200$ so that might be a good choice.
8/9/2007 10:47:34 AM
I think he mentioned wanting wide screen....
8/9/2007 10:49:05 AM
Alright good. Is he stuck on three lcds? 2 would be great. 2 24"s would be pricy, but you could do 2 22"s for around 400-500$. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116076That's a cheaper one. Or something similar? It depends how picky he is about his LCDs. You could defin find cheaper/more expensive ones. It all depends on what he uses them for.[Edited on August 9, 2007 at 10:56 AM. all the 22 inchers are TN panels, your not going to see an ultrasharp, frankly most of them probalby use amlost the same panel, but use different tricks to improve certain aspects. I settled on the BenQ 22incher, because of teh DVI and HDMI inputs (so i can connect a dvd player or xbox, or cable box, and forgo having a tv in my room.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014139TN panels arent great but they are cheap, S-IPS panesl i think are what you see on the ultrasharps and the higher end monitors.[Edited on August 9, 2007 at 5:12 PM.
