Okay so my dad got this virus on his comp and tried to fix it following some random websites directions that what he explained sounded like he enabled safemode thru msconfig.problem is his computer logged onto a network so to speak and when he enabled safe mode he wasnt able to log on to his computer. He said it used to say more or less-Login -PW-Network <>now in safe mode it just says-Login-PWand his pw doesnt work.Restarted the computer for him and tried to get to boot options by hitting F8 but none of them seem to work.So help lol.

reformating is the easiest, and fastest solution probably

can he just log into windows without logging into a network? i dont see why not having the network is an issue.all you have to do is edit msconfig again to boot back into normal mode

his password only worked when there was an associated network or whatever it is...so basically is there a way to force a normal boot when msconfig is set to safe mode bc the F8 option of regular boot isnt workin

ha...I just had to deal with this on my work computer last week. The computer probably has to authenticate with a domain controller using LDAP or the like. That's why it needs the network. Best option - Reformat. It is an epic pain in the ass to try and remove things on a computer in this situation simply because the only way to get on is to allow network access.

ntpasswd, enable the local administrator account, login with that, fix whatever needs to be fixed, lock the local admin account again, reboot, login to domain

yeah what smoothcrim said, you need a password reset utility, search for it.reset your password with that.or just try to login with user: administrator, blank password, if you're lucky that will work.happy fathers day
