My boss just asked me to identify three Asian characters. I have no idea what they mean, and I can't exactly type the image into Google to get the definition. We're using them in a magazine spread, and she wants to make sure they aren't anything profane. Does anyone have any idea how to look this up?I don't know what language they are or anything about them, really, other than what they look like.

You would probably get more help if you gave us something to work with. A picture of the characters would go a long way towards that.

asians suffer from poor night vision because of their squinty eyesmales have small peniiwomen have sideways vaginas
6/15/2007 11:58:05 AM
I'm working on drawing it in paint. ^ Keep that shit in Chit Chat, please.
6/15/2007 12:00:08 PM
it belongs here.those are common characteristics of asian characters.
6/15/2007 12:04:04 PM
That's the best I could do. They aren't actually lumpy like that, though.
6/15/2007 12:06:11 PM
okayyou wrote the characters poorly.first one is a dog.second is barely recognizable, i think it's chicken.third i'm assuming going with the current trend would appear to be lamp/goat.[Edited on June 15, 2007 at 12:11 PM. Reason : this post is actually serious.]

Oh crap, I just realized I only did half of the middle character, which might be why it's unrecognizable . I'll redo it.And yes, I know I did them poorly, because 1) I have never written any Asian letters before and 2) Paint isn't the best place to try for the first time, but it's all I have to work with at the moment. Thanks though. What language is it?
6/15/2007 12:20:06 PM
OK, that should be the actual one. The bottom is a tiny bit cut off in the image I have, so I'm not positive that's what the bottom looks like exactly (not that the rest of it is that accurate).
6/15/2007 12:25:33 PM
The right hand size is bird. Together they form the word chicken. This is Chinese, btw.The first character DOG would be pronounced, Guo. Obviously intonation is important, but I'm not going to bother teaching you Mandarin.Second character is still CHICKEN or in chinese Jee.Third is Yang or SHEEP.[Edited on June 15, 2007 at 12:34 PM. Thanks! It might be bad, though, that we're using the symbol for dog in a piece about restaurants ... heh.
6/15/2007 12:33:01 PM
You should probably use a symbol for bull/cow.
6/15/2007 12:33:39 PM
^^ korean restaurant?lol
6/15/2007 12:39:27 PM
can you write quickly using asian characters?? From my understanding it seems that each characters have to formed precisely or it gives different meanings. Seems kinda elaborate
6/15/2007 1:13:09 PM
it's no slower than writing out english.
6/15/2007 1:18:39 PM
I'm just trying to figure out why your boss would ask you to do that in the first place. Especially if you have no prior knowledge of mandarin.
6/15/2007 1:21:03 PM
OMG will you write me a chinese character tattoo? youre pretty good. I'm not chinese but i AM asian so it'd be cool
6/15/2007 1:30:11 PM
^^ The art department just pulled some random characters and didn't know what they meant. She didn't want to have to figure it out herself, so they made the intern do it. But thankfully TWW pulled through for me
6/15/2007 2:08:45 PM
Ahahaha - the life of an intern = doing the shit jobs that no one else wants to do.
6/15/2007 2:37:25 PM
Heh, yeah. This is the first time anyone has asked me to do anything crazy though. And I hope I don't have to do it much more.

The character is. I'm saying that dog in general is pronounced that way.[Edited on June 15, 2007 at 10:41 PM. Reason : sorry if you misinterpreted it.]
6/15/2007 10:41:25 PM
a old way to right it
6/15/2007 11:08:10 PM
OK, I see -- my bad.I just can't believe I wrote "right" instead of "write" lol.

6/16/2007 1:04:55 AM
^^ Durr, Japanese pronounciation tho.
6/16/2007 9:26:51 AM
go to a chinese restaurant.
6/16/2007 11:25:44 PM
wait a minute...youre saying that your company is designing a magazine spread about a restaurant... so they pull three chinese characters out at random, and no one knows what the hell they mean, or really even what language they are... but yet youre going to blindly use them advertising some asian restaurant???then at the last minute they tell the intern, "hey make sure we arent saying 'fuck your momma' or something"...and so the intern goes to a college message board to find out it means "Dog Chicken Sheep"is this real? what kind of wack company do you work for? and people pay your company to make this stuff?
6/17/2007 1:50:27 AM
^ I have a feeling this scenario is far more common in the real world than we like to believe.
6/17/2007 2:02:21 AM
yea i no rite.you'd think i'd quit getting surprised by this sort of shit by now.
