I have some guys delivering a couch to my apt tomorrow from the furniture store. What type of tip do these guys usually get?
6/8/2007 5:46:25 PM
at least 20 bucks a person, I gave 30 each to the 2 guys who brought mine last week, but it was really heavy and like 95 degrees out[Edited on June 8, 2007 at 5:51 PM. Reason : x]
6/8/2007 5:49:13 PM
show him yer tits.
6/8/2007 5:54:39 PM
Nothing. Its an uneducated myth that you should tip delivery man but in reality you shouldn't tip them. They are paid hourly and paid well.People that get tipped who shouldn't-ups/mailman-delivery-cable/phone installerAll of which are well paying positions some of which are actually breaking a rule by accepting a tip depending on their company.

^^I don't think they would wanna see my hairy man boobs.[Edited on June 8, 2007 at 5:59 PM. Reason : ]

lol who the hell tips a UPS driver
6/8/2007 6:07:26 PM
delivery people. Don't let bridgetSPK catch you labeling a job title after 'men' only.
6/8/2007 6:29:12 PM
And by delivery I don't mean food. Tip them.
6/8/2007 6:33:50 PM
What if I know that they are men?
6/8/2007 6:35:59 PM
bttt what are standard amounts that people tip?
6/8/2007 10:36:57 PM
whoa wtf, I have a couch being delivered next weekend, I wasn't planning on tipping them. I already paid a $90 delivery fee
6/8/2007 10:40:41 PM
you tip them by pointing to where you want the couch[Edited on June 8, 2007 at 11:05 PM. Reason : that way they'll have a good tip on where to put it down]
6/8/2007 11:03:59 PM
wtfyou dont tip unless they're bringing you foodI would never tip the cable guy or the ups guy..... those guys perform a serviceit'd be like tipping the guy who changes your oilor the cook at burger king
6/8/2007 11:16:17 PM

6/8/2007 11:24:39 PM
I would offer them food and drinks only, if there was a huge fee maybe not even that.http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/tipping/[Edited on June 9, 2007 at 12:01 AM. Reason : link found]
6/8/2007 11:53:40 PM
offering them a cold drink and to let them sit down is tip enough for me.
6/9/2007 12:38:07 AM
ive tipped movers before when they do a really good job, and work hard.something like $20. i dont know if its required or expected though.
6/9/2007 12:41:11 AM
Well I'm leaning towards no. It isn't even a full couch, it's just a love seat. It probably won't even take them more than five mins to get it in here.
6/9/2007 1:01:46 AM
yall are fucking jewsall of you
6/9/2007 1:11:53 AM
^ hey, next time a cop pulls over because he's doing his job. tip him
6/9/2007 1:14:28 AM
^^ no I tip huge when warrented, but to tip for bring in a love seat he probably paid a shitload for is stupid (not to mention there getting paid a lot).[Edited on June 9, 2007 at 1:14 AM. Reason : .]
6/9/2007 1:14:29 AM
If the ticket weighed 300 pounds and the cop brought it to my living room, I would tip himYall are the same people who dont tip the pizza guy because the company adds a delivery charge to the order[Edited on June 9, 2007 at 1:30 AM. Reason : x]
6/9/2007 1:26:19 AM
you're damn right.
6/9/2007 1:31:23 AM
well pizza guys make~ 15 if they get delivery charge + 2$ tips. and lets say ~2 for gas so 13 an hour which is too much just to deliver a pizza.
6/9/2007 1:41:03 AM
nice math will hunting
6/9/2007 1:47:55 AM
if some place charges a delivery charge for pizza, that is their tip. they dont get no more.delivery men/movers/etc ... get paid a wage and maybe benefits if its a reputable company. still, if they are friendly and you can see that they make the effort to be careful and do a good job (not slack around or loaf on hourly rate)... i give em a tip. they got a tough job, and i dont want to do it. amd they really dont get paid all that well, and so i thank them with a tip.if they act all shitty or like they dont care, or drag their asses about it... then no tip.if its just one small piece, then i probably wouldnt tip. unless they had some extremely difficult job to get it up stairs or around tight corners or something.
6/9/2007 1:50:29 AM
You should lie down on the couch when they're done, and say "Bye" and then fall asleep.
6/10/2007 3:16:26 AM
Huh, I'm a chincy bastard and I tipped furniture guys $20. I was going to tip in beer, but it was like 9:30 AM.
6/10/2007 4:57:01 AM
im not payin somebody for doing the job they get paid to do. waiters/waitresses, at least at small-town places, don't get paid for crap... so i tip them... but delivery people, i don't think so. i stopped doing that when i learned about what they get paid, added delivery charges and all that crap. it makes about as much sense as having taxes taken out of your check, and then you pay taxes again every year. not everybody can double-dip into my wallet.[Edited on June 10, 2007 at 5:30 AM. I usually tip by bringing a big box of Popeyes, moving folks ALWAYS like Popeyes

Interesting. When we have furniture or something delivered, if they dont bang my walls and put it where my wife wants it, i at least give each of them 20$ a piece. When we moved into our house, i tipped the 2 guys $300 for them to split because they didnt break anything and they didnt bang my walls. Not to mention they worked for 9 hours, and I got to sit on my couch and watch. Also, what about someone who does a service that requires skill, and they do a good job?I had someone come stretch the carpet here, and after they were done, I thought they did a great job, and tipped them $20 on a $75 bill, same went for the carpet cleaning guys. They did a really nice job, and even did the stairs for free.[Edited on June 10, 2007 at 11:10 AM. Reason : .]
6/10/2007 11:09:34 AM
thats fine if you want to tip moving guys 300 dollars, but that by no means makes it proper etiquette or common.
6/10/2007 11:21:24 AM
Or affordable by the general populace, for that matter.
6/10/2007 11:45:15 AM
yeah. i mean, my entire move from FL to WI was between 2-2.5k so thats in the neighborhood of 15% tip. this aint no restaurant.
6/10/2007 12:02:19 PM
wolfmarsh is just wastefull and wants to seem like a baller by throwing around big tips. They are being paid to do their job, you aren't so you should be sitting down watching. You act like they aren't sopposed to bring the stuff in without damaging the walls. IF they do anything BUT a nice job or damage the walls then you call the company and get some of your money back. You're payign the company to get the service. If the service is good they've met their duty. If its bad then they owe YOU. NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.
6/10/2007 12:52:30 PM
I can understand tipping movers for working 9 straight hours and carrying lots of shit. But two guys moving in a single love seat and taking a total of 3 mins just doesn't seem like much work. And call me a jew all you want but I just spent a shit load of money moving to a new city and buying furniture and stuff and I still won't get my first paycheck for at least two weeks so I need to penny pinch as much as I can right now.
6/10/2007 1:09:26 PM
I dont care if you think im a baller or not.I will never run into you in real life, so i give a shit less.I just think its proper to tip, and tip well. Take care of people and they take care of you.
6/10/2007 1:18:28 PM
Utter nonsense.they are being paid already, its their job. You act like they're doing you a favor. Next time you feel like giving money away for no reason you should donate to soemthing that benefits needy children.
6/10/2007 1:29:44 PM
Why hvae we become a society that tips for everything? Certain things require tips. a delievery man, not at all.

The real question is do you tip your professors before or after the final exam?
