do you mean a personal loan?or a private education loan for graduate students that can be used for whatever?Im assuming you mean a personal unsecured loan. These typically have fairly high interest rates that are fixed, usually lower than a credit card though. You will have a set payment each month, and pay off times can range from one year to five years or more.[Edited on June 6, 2007 at 8:48 PM. Reason : .]

have you not already done your FAFSA? At 22/23 you can claim yourself as fully independent. I think they max out at 20,000 a semester, but that would be a MUCH better option. It's not too late to fill out the application either.

private education loan for graduate students is what I am looking for where they send you the money direct and not through the school, if they send it with all the other fasa stuff my rents will prob find out. and I don't want to pay it back till after I graduate, otherwise i'd be using credit.

your parents will not find out unless your mail is being sent to their house, or they have access to your checking account. It's against the law.But this sounds like a "my parents pay for all my shit, but I am spending even more money" type situation if you care about your parents finding out.And you do realize you don't pay back ANY student loans until after you graduate right? The difference is, if you get it through your FAFSA, you'll get likely half subsidized (interest free) and the other half will be a 3.5-6% interest rate.Versus a private loan where you will be paying 7-15% interest.

^^^ all graduate students are completely independent from parents on the fafsa. You will need none of their information and they will not find out you obtained a loan unless you send the paperwork to their house. You can get the private graduate school education loans direct from numerous banks and other lenders, but it will be at less favorable terms and rates.I mean shit you always max out your loans you can obtain via the fafsa before getting private loans. The only students I met who obtained a private loan did so because they were on a full assistantship (tution, health care, modest living stipend), but still felt they needed more money for nicer cars or money for whatever, yet couldn't get it via the fafsa.[Edited on June 6, 2007 at 9:58 PM.
