Anyone taken this class with G. Young? What are the exams like?

outstanding teacher, exams aren't bad they are all open notes/open handouts

you'll get differing opinions on Young. Depends on if you like challenging professors or an easy A and a skipable class. If you like the challenge and like attending class and can handle criticism then take it with Young. I also recommend Padilla under the same circumstances. If you want an easy A avoid both and go with Czarnecki.

^^ You're out of your mind.Greg Young has been and remains the worst thing to ever happen to the NC State COM. He's an embarrassment to the word "instructor." Seriously, just click School Tool and look up his reviews. Years of pissing off kids don't lie. His assignments are impossible to understand, and even if you follow instructions with precision, don't be surprised to get a failing grade. He also enjoys showing up for class and wobbling down the aisle as if he threw back a few 40s before showing up. I can't urge you enough to avoid this man. There are plenty of other fine 480 teachers out there, I loved Czarnecki (took young for a 300-level class), and while some found him "too easy," there's plenty of hours in the day to delve into the book and make what you want of the class. Young will frustrate you from minute one -- not something you want your senior year.[Edited on June 6, 2007 at 11:39 AM. Reason : .]

Yeah Southpaw is right. Czarnecki might be a joke for a professor but at least hes an easy A. Young is a nightmare - avoid him at all costs.

Every teacher for this class is tough......Tyler is bearable. A load of work, but the hard work pays off if you try.....As for young, I've seen people cry over his class.....don't torture yourself, get someone else or take the class at another time with another teacher.

i had young...thought he was dumb at the time but did well in the class. I just took my Level two test for the CFA charter and you see stuff from his class a lot (esp Porter's 5 forces)...so if you're willing to put the effort forth, then go ahead and take the challenge.

mcfadyen is the best, but i think she left

^^ Every 480 teacher teaches Porter's 5 Forces.Select one that's not an idiot to teach it to you.

I learned more in Tyler's class than in any business class at State by far. It's a lot of work, and she can be pretty harsh when it comes to evaluating work, but I actually took something away from that class as opposed to pretty much every other business class where you listen to a dull lecture and take the same formulaic multiple choice test that every course uses.

I started out with Young for 480. I signed up late and missed the first class. When I came in, he had already divided the class into groups of 4-5 for semester long projects. When I asked to be added to a group, he told me that the groups were set and that I could do all the projects by myself. A few classes in, I realized that he was a FLAMING ASSHOLE who could less about his students and immediately dropped the class.Took it next semester with Padilla and LOVED that class. He was interesting, challenging, engaging, and best of all, personable. I learned a hell of a lot in that class, and felt as if I was being taught by someone who gave a damn. The courseload was more than an "easy A", but very managable. Padilla all the way!
