^That's likely a part of it, and I'm fine with it insofar that it added a bit of musical color to the pallette. After Nirvana and Pearl Jam, the rest of the '90s was largely formulaic mimicry - very little range. The '00s are even worse. It may just be the bitterness of age talking, though.
