As far away from the masters tournament as possible. B/c during this time you will be permanently trapped in your house if you live within a twenty mile radius.

Husband has a job opportunity in the area. What are the goods/bads of Augusta/Evans/Martinez, etc?
2/5/2014 5:34:23 PM
What's the company? Also, Evans/Martinez isn't that bad. For the love of all that is holy, do NOT live in the southern or western part of Augusta.also, if you want to buy a house in Aiken, holla!]

He would be at the Nuclear Power Plant in Waynesboro, but I will not live in the middle of nowhere. If the job was in the downtown area of Augusta, Aiken would be on the list.I personally don't want to move back south, but the job offer is decent.[Edited on February 6, 2014 at 8:44 AM. Reason : What's wrong with southern/western Augusta... just curious?]

Downtown is getting better. A lot of rejuvenation going on in the broad st/greene st area and would be fun if you enjoy more of the "downtown" feel. Some nice apartments/lofts in that area and tons of bars if that's your thing. As you get away from the Savannah River it gets a little more dicey. If I remember correctly, there were some charming but old houses near the university, which is just outside of downtown. North Augusta just across the river is nice as well and there are some massive houses there on the water. It sounds like most families stay away from Richmond County schools and prefer Columbia County. LOTS of military/contractors and med students.

We definitely want a house with a yard, which is why we're leaning more toward Martinez/Evans - that is if I can tolerate the area and he takes the job. "Charming" houses aren't my preference and schools aren't a major concern right now. I would like to live nearer to people in their late-20s/early 30s, but I don't that may be difficult.Being around military people doesn't bother me since that's the situation we've been in for the past 7 years, but I definitely don't want to live right next to Ft. Gordan.

Where are you now? I do not speak from experience, but I cannot imagine living near the base would be a problem. I think the base is almost entirely signals/intel driven so you will not have the noise issues or the wild military types roaming around. It is definitely a "southern" city and a lot of the younger crowd is transient with the base and medical school there. If you didn't mind being near the base, Grovetown might be an option.[Edited on February 6, 2014 at 10:42 AM. Reason : ]

Living near a Navy base in CT currently. I guess I've just heard too many stories about Ft. Bragg.

Fiances father retired military and works with the security detail at Savannah River Plant. They live in Aiken. It's nice for the area.

If he's working at Plant Vogtle, then definitely live in Martinez or Evans. Aiken is nice, and I liked living there, but it is an absolute pain to get to Waynesboro from there. US1 to Augusta is nothing but a 12-mile-long speed trap, and it's the only way to get there.
