I like the idea of all the HD channels satellite offers but does anyone know the best deals direct tv offers?

I looked into satellite vs cable because we have a dish already outside, but it just seems cheaper for what I need from cable. We get all HD Suite, HBO Suite, Digital and DVR, and it runs us about $85 a month. Satellite charges for every single thing, including $40 a month for DVR, whereas ours is around 5 or 6.Plus I'm used to the channels by now.

do you have to pay extra for local channels?

Dish Network with the basic HD package and a DVR costs us $77 / month.(no phone line) If they tell you something different they're full of shit. The service is fine though.Dish Network doesn't broadcast local channels in HD(in this area, anyway). But they're broadcast free over the air. We've got an old-ass TV antenna plugged into the DVR. We can record network shit and everything.[Edited on May 29, 2007 at 4:31 PM. Reason : Matter of fact, we can record THREE(!) HD channels all at once. It's a nice DVR.]

I confirm that dish whips TWC's assDirectTV has been advertising 100's of HD channels for months on end but they still have less than Dish - which is cheaper than all 3

Without ESPN2HD and ESPN-U, I was just a hair away from ordering DTV. With those two channels now, however, it's a no brainer.TWC gives you crazy promos, there's no up front charge for the HD DVR, no 2-year contract, you get a solid deal on high-speed internet, etc.If I had to pick between Dish & DTV, go Dish to avoid the up front HD DVR charge (at least I think they're still running that deal for new customers).

does anyone know TWC's best new customer promotion right now?
