Classic Chinese approach to handling senior figures that have fallen out of favor. I wonder if he was simply sacked as a scapegoat to pacify the masses on the issue or if he was sacrificed as part of an even larger campaign by Hu Jintao's ruling faction to suppress opposing factions within his government. That's what happened in all those corruption cases a couple of years ago.
