Okay here's the situation. My girlfriend works for duke ag dept and her normal dresswear is jeans and a t-shirt. Sometimes she likes to dress up a little nicer but not in the frilly things that are the current fashion.

So for those of you who buy plain clothing, that still looks nice, where do you shop?

She wears an 8-10 womens so we're talking normal sizes.

We've tried, Kohls, JCPenny, Sears, Target, and walmart so far with little to no luck. It's all either been crappy quality or has some kind of poof on the arms or too long pants etc. Just hoping to find something closer to her tastes.

I second Ann Taylor Loft, it's classic. I don't shop there much, but New York and Co. may have the kind of thing she's looking for as well

Oh ok - sounds like you're trying to find business casual clothes?

Definitely Ann Taylor loft. I got a lot of my first starter suits at Belks and they have held up amazingly well. Only Worthington (JCPenney's Brand) fits/wears well that I could find at JC Penney. I get some shell tops/sweaters from the Issac collection at Target, but that's it. GAP pants/chinos etc

I find K-Mart (if you can find one, they are so exclusive) keeps me in style.

If you're looking for clothes that fit well, you have to pay more for them. JC Penny, Sears, etc... simply aren't going to cut it.

When I was like 8 or 9, my parents were still trying to make my older sister and I shop at Kmart. It wasn't until we went out and bought our own clothes and showed them the difference between J. Crew jeans and Chic jeans that they realized paying an extra 30 or 40 dollars really did make a difference. Of course, now places like J. Crew are demanding an extra 80 dollars, and that's just absurd, considering they're really not that special, but whatever...

If you're dead set on department stores, then try any of the department stores that you haven't tried--y'all somehow managed to hit up all the shitty places available. Dillard's, Belk, etc... aren't high-end, but they're a billion times better than fucking Sears. You can find good things at Sears, but you'll have to look for hours, and in those hours, you coulda been working and made enough money to buy a decent pair of pants without having to look for hours...opportunity cost, folks.
