Basically the guitar I have right now is 5 million years old and was a hand-me-down and is starting to fall apart. My grandfather didn't take good care of it.I'm going to be working at a camp this summer in Asheville and I'm wanting to bring my guitar with me, however I'm scared it won't last the first week.I got on e-bay and found this guitar...http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7411210576&ih=016&category=2385I read it, looks like you're actually getting the guitar and the accessories, I read the reviews of the seller, all good reviews.Do y'all think it's worth it? I mean to at least last me 10 weeks at camp?

I need an acoustic guitar, and an affordable guitar. Right now I'm running fumes and the price there is about as much as I could go.[Edited on May 22, 2007 at 11:05 AM. Reason : ]

You get what you pay for. That pink abomination you linked to looks like complete garbage.
5/22/2007 11:23:50 AM
in my experience you get what you pay for with guitars, so i'd shy away from that one rather than try to impress people for 10 weeks. and in considering cost don't forget you're going to need extra strings and a chromatic tuner if you can't tune it by ear.
5/22/2007 11:24:05 AM
yeah that's what I figured...I just needed someon to talk me out of it
5/22/2007 11:29:35 AM
that guitar looks like crap. If you want a cheap guitar, I suggest go to a pawn shop and find a yamaha.
5/22/2007 12:06:53 PM
if you just want something cheaper to take around and not too worried about getting messed up, buy a Johnson. They're cheap and hold up decently. However if you're serious and want to play for years, dont bother buy something of better quality.
5/22/2007 12:14:53 PM
you're going to... camp?
5/22/2007 12:29:58 PM
my bf bought a really good condition Jasmine for $60 off TWWcheck around craigslist, pawn shops, and TWW for good brand used guitars. I guarantee you can find one for about $50-$60. It's not much more than the ebay one.

^^I'm working at a camp as a counseloryeah basically I'm looking for something in great conditon, good quality, and used for under $100...which I know is probably a long stretch.[Edited on May 22, 2007 at 12:55 PM. Reason : ]

seriously, buy a decent one a pawn shopmost pawn shops don't sell a lot of guitars and would make a great deal to get rid of one
5/22/2007 12:55:35 PM
I'm going to do that, hit up the pawn shops here before I leave (might make a trip to my grandparents to see if I can pull a little money out of them) if I can't find something here, then I'll try asheville...might have better luck there.
5/22/2007 12:58:30 PM
the one near the harris teeter and planet fitness is greatseriosuly, go in and be like, "what'll you take for this one"
5/22/2007 1:02:58 PM
I'm in Hickory. I won't be back to Raleigh until at least August
5/22/2007 1:07:08 PM
2nd the vote for a Yamaha. Their guitars are good quality and don't cost an arm and a leg.
5/22/2007 1:25:28 PM
I'm still tryin to find a pawn shop around here that has a guitar...does anyone know a round about price that I could expect?
5/22/2007 1:44:59 PM
what the fuck kind of pawn shop does not have a guitar?have you ever been to a pawn shop????
5/22/2007 1:50:13 PM
The first two I called around here said they didn't have any in...I thought it was weird too.^I've never had a need to go into a pawn shop so the answer is no.[Edited on May 22, 2007 at 1:56 PM. Reason : ]

You can find a decent used guitar for <$100. Search Craigslist and post a WTB ad.
5/22/2007 3:54:35 PM
guitar shop ftw
5/22/2007 4:06:10 PM
SamAsh or Guitar Center sometimes have some cheapies that they buy used.Musician's Friend has specials pretty frequently where they close out their "low-end" guitars for ~$100 or less. They're not top notch, but they're infinitely better than your ebay find. It's not a bad investment, considering you'll surely play it a bit outside of said 10-week period.

There's a consignment music shop in Crossroads called Music-go-round, next to Radio Shack (between Dick's and DSW). You could give them a try.
5/22/2007 5:51:55 PM
its not e-bay, its just ebay
5/22/2007 5:56:15 PM
I don't think mail ordering even a high end guitar would be a good idea. You need to be able to sit down and play the thing, make sure it suits you, has a good sound and doesn't have buzzing frets/majorly fucked up intonation.

5/22/2007 6:47:43 PM
i can lend you one...if you're good in taking care stuff
5/22/2007 7:23:02 PM
I got one from a pawn shop today for $50...they were asking $70 but I talked them down with cash!
5/22/2007 7:31:31 PM
Might want to try Music Go Around at Crossroads. Some guy wasn't talking me up about a used Yamaha acoustic for about $140. Played it a little bit and it had a nice sound.
5/22/2007 8:14:06 PM
Ibanez has a basic acoustic with accessories for $100. its the best deal for the $ you'll find anywhere.http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/buy_ibanez_ijv50_jampack_quick_start?full_sku=519456%2e010

Just curious, what's wrong with the guitar you have? When you say falling apart, do you mean it's bellying (the bridge is lifting up the top), the neck is bowing, the tuners are falling off, or what?
5/23/2007 5:20:05 AM
So basically my old guitar the bridge pulled off way back when (16 years ago), and my grandfather tried to fix it. However before he fixed it he tried to tune it. So the bridge split apart. Therefore he fixed that too. Then about this same time that it broke (16 years ago) a 3 year old dropped it down some stairs and kinda cracked it open. Grandfather did something to try to fix it.Anyway, when I was 16 I decided that I wanted to learn to play but my parents didn't want to buy me a guitar because every instrument I ever learned, once I learned I lost interest in it, so I got this old busted up guitar to learn on.Well it lasted about 4 years, because yesterday I was playing and it was out of tune, so I went to tune it, the string broke, the bridge popped off, it broke into more than one piece. And I noticed the crack had opened back up. It's life was over, it had been on it's last leg for 16 years. It's time had come, the guitar IMO is far beyond repair. But I went to the pawn shop yesterday and found a nice guitar and talked them down to $50 for it.

^what brand did you get?
