i have a '75 honda and have taken it to 2 places before, everyone there scratched their heads b/c none of them have worked on older bikes and after spending a fist full of money it still acts up enough to not be reliable.
5/24/2007 7:25:38 PM
What all is it doing? (Spitting spuddering, backfiring, cuttin off ect ect)?

75' honda cb750 it was hard to start cold but once it warmed up it seemed to get better about it but about 2 weeks ago it stalled out but i was able to getit started again and it happened again and i was able to get it started again but it wont start at all now. if i give it some gas while i kick it it will sound like its trying to turn over but wont. it has ignition button but that stoped working about a week after i took it to a shop about 6 months ago. when its running the engine sounds fine so i doubt it is too complicated.
5/25/2007 3:36:57 PM
sounds like either the plugs are fouled, no start condition, and/or the carbs need cleaning/adjustment for the rough running

Just inherited a 1996 Yamaha Virago 1100. It won't crank, but I can pop the clutch and make it run. When it ran, it was rought and cut out quickly, probably hasn't been riden in 6 months. Anyone know someone dependable that would want to take a look at it, or a place to take it? Is powersports in garner the best place?
7/7/2007 6:52:58 PM
just put a battery in it maybe?
7/7/2007 7:46:36 PM
Ha, thanks for the advice, took the battery out and charged it, that didn't work so bought a new one and replaced spark plugs, no dice.
7/8/2007 4:17:39 PM
can you hear the starter relay clicking? do you otherwise have power from the battery (lights, etc.)?
7/8/2007 4:51:17 PM
Yes, the first time or two I try it the engine almost starts to turn over, then it just clicks. After that it just continues to click if I try to start it again.
7/8/2007 9:06:41 PM
all your connections good?
7/8/2007 9:14:31 PM
try to jump it off a car

^ and then go lookin for a new cdi boxcheck the battery voltage on the terminals, then at the block and starter, if the battery checks out goodto break it down a little simpler:1: check directly on the battery posts, crank it, bad > replace battery, voltage good >2: check on the wire terminals on the battery, crank it, bad > clean terminals, good>3: check from positive terminal to engine block, crank it, bad > check grounds, good>4: check from hot solenoid terminal to block, crank it, bad> check wire and connections, good>5. check to starter side of solenoid to block, crank it, bad> replace solenoid, good>6. check from block to starter terminal, bad, check wire from solenoid, good> take off starter and check brushes[Edited on July 9, 2007 at 11:27 AM. Reason : and get a service manual with a good wiring diagram][Edited on July 9, 2007 at 11:27 AM. Reason : you should be lookin for about 11.5 volts, below 11 is bad, ]
