And what did you think of it?

I took it this weekend from NYC to Baltimore, and then back from DC to NYC. The ride down was alright, about 1/2 hr late. The way back though sucked ass, was 1 1/2 hrs late. The bus driver was horrible. And on both trips there was a crying baby

Can't beat the price though, so I'm on the fence with regards to using it again.

i've used it for a relatively short trip from louisville, ky to nashville, tn in HS - took about an hour and half longer than driving but was very cheap - i'd use it again if i was broke probably

It sucks for the most part---my big complaint is always about the lack of leg room, but you can't beat it for the price ($35 R/T).

I took it from Chillicothe, OH to Charlotte, NC overnight one summer when I was a teenager. It was pretty cool. It was a comfortable ride; there were interesting folks to talk to, and the layovers were spaced so that one could grab bite to eat every few hours. Overall, I enjoyed it and would do it again just for the experience. I can't really speak to its price, though; I didn't buy the ticket.

Never taken Greyhound, but if I was going that route and not driving, I'd take Amtrak. Probably more than $35 but def. less than flying, and with one exception (an overcrowded train the day before Thanksgiving) my Amtrak experiences have been good.

yeah, i took a train from Fayetteville to NYC once (it's the one that goes from florida to NYC, the silver bullet or something) and ended up with meningitis because of it. not fun.

and the train was LITERALLY 8 hours late.

i hate amtrak, and i had rather take amtrak than greyhound.............my dad still tells horror stories of taking a greyhound going from dc back to western north carolina a few times when he was younger

I always use the greyhound roundtrip from Atlantic City to NYC because its considerably less expensive and more convenient than trying to park in NYC.

The only really bad experience I had was an ice storm that left me stranded on a bus (hungover) for ~6 hours.

Sometimes the passengers are kinda filty and disgusting but i rarely have to sit next to anyone unless its a friend on my trip.

Theyve never enforced the "no alcohol" policy on me although i do attempt to be a little discrete (brown bags or airplane bottles usually)

Overall i think they are a pretty dependable and cost effective means of travel.

I do know a friends girlfriend used to take them from Philly to Raleigh a lot and hated it because of the frequent stops. I've never made a trip long enough that needed to make stops along the way so i cant relate.

The only cheaper alternative is the Chinatown Express, which doesn't run to Baltimore (DC, NYC, & Boston only). And its only like $5-10 cheaper.

Amtrak is NOT a lot cheaper than flying, not even close unless you can buy your ticket WAAAAAAY in advance. Bus ticket to DC 3 days before the trip is $35. Same Amtrack ticket would be around $150. Its a wonder to me that Amtrack is still in business. In a lot of cases flying is cheaper than train, if given enough notice

The trip down to Baltimore wasn't bad, I had a cute Russian girl (literally just flew over) to talk to and there were only 2 stops. The trip back was direct, no stops.

I took Greyhound once from Hickory to Raleigh. It was a miserable 9 hour ride. 3 hours by car.

I took a Greyhound from Charlotte to west Arkansas...2 days on a bus and several bus stops. I was like 10 or 12 with my walkman and 3-4 tapes though so I was straight

but looking back on it, wouldn't do it again. I looked into taking the bus on a trip a while back and it wasn't nearly as cheap as it should be

In college I took it from Raleigh to El Paso, TX with my girlfriend. 2 days. I didn't mind too much but she had a terrible time.

took a greyhound a few years ago from raleigh to richmond. it was interesting. the guy in front of me argued with himself in french the entire way and two women were on the verge of fisticuffs. there were some other questionable things that happened but i don't remember them.

it was super cheap, ~$25 or so, but i feel like you get what you pay for.

^why? The bus ride is 8 1/2 hrs while the train is over 10 hours and usually includes a transfer in DC. The bus costs $90 while the train is $240+ (and airline tickets start at just under $200).

The train should be the best alternative, but it's not even close.

I took Greyhound from Middlebury, VT, to Raleigh once. Took a day and a half with layovers in Albany, NYC, DC, and Greensboro. It was quite the experience. Probably not something I would choose to do now but as a young, broke college student it was fine. No crying babies thank goodness. Did sit next to a guy from Albany to NYC that tried to recruit me into his cult though

the price was too good damn good(you must read that in the "rent was too damn high" voice), and it says it will only take just over three hours, there are no stops scheduled

it takes 2hr 45min to drive from fayetteville so its is only going to be about 45min extra of my time and cost about $5-$10 less than i would pay in gas

a friend of mine took a Megabus all the way to Toronto from NC, where they were flying out to Europe. They paid like $5.95 with fees, and it was on-time for the most part

sidenote: i have this fear of greyhound buses. i will not ride behind or beside them on the road. the rear engine is always loud as fuck and has dark smokey shit all over it and makes me paranoid it's going to blow up.

It's true! The way Megabus works is the earlier you book, the cheaper the tickets. I had a friend take it from Durham to DC and it cost them $3! Free wifi service too.

Personally, I'll take them if I need to, but if I can just as easily get a Bolt, Mega, or Greyhound for just a little bit more money I'm happy to do that, at least until the Chinatown guys can show that they've made some serious changes to their industry...
