without paying the ridiculous fee?i changed my calling plan recently, which made me have to resign another 2 year agreement, but i'm dissatisfied with the service.
5/21/2007 7:58:14 AM
Well yes and no.Technically you are under contract and the only way to break said contract is by some usually ridiculous fee. However, if you have a shitty enough situation and you complain enough to managers or whoever you can talk to of the higher-ups, you can usually make something happen. It's going to take a hell of a lot of talking though.
5/21/2007 8:08:41 AM
or you could use alltel and change your plan at any time without having to re-sign
5/21/2007 8:17:15 AM
bingo^
5/21/2007 8:19:56 AM
you could probably call some 1-800 number and argue about your dissatisfaction...maybe they'd let you out then.
5/21/2007 8:37:43 AM
ya but with altel they tack on a year to your contract from the time of change of plan. They did that to me once without telling me that was the policy.
5/21/2007 9:08:44 AM
did they tell you that you were agreeing to an extended contract? if not, and it's not stated in your original contract or any literature they've sent to you since then, you probably have a leg to stand on.Your best bet is to wait for them to change something, which they do fairly often, it seems. Pay-per-use data rates and text message rates are usually what they change most often.onetwoTo get you started.]
5/21/2007 9:22:51 AM
gracias, and alltel is who i want to switch to.
5/21/2007 9:37:25 AM
tell em you're moving somewhere that they don't provide service.
5/21/2007 10:42:20 AM
verizon provides service pretty much everywhere.
5/21/2007 11:40:07 AM
Alltel sucks.
5/21/2007 11:42:01 AM
well, everyone i need to call is on alltel and it would be MUCH cheaper for me to use them.
5/21/2007 11:43:01 AM
I've always wondered if you went to the company you are planning to switch to if they might give you some kind of deal.
5/21/2007 1:21:50 PM
go with alltell if you have the moneybut you should expect to pay at least $150 a month, probably closer to $200 though
5/21/2007 1:43:01 PM
^uh, no.
5/21/2007 1:47:17 PM
I have never had to renew my contract to change my plan through Cingular.
5/21/2007 1:48:18 PM
^ wow, what kind of plan is that?Anyone have any experience getting out of a sprint contract? Their service isn't just bad, it's downright unuseable. I cann't make any calls from inside my house. I have to go outside and/or walk down the street before I can actually hold more than a 30 second call.
5/21/2007 1:48:39 PM
cingular has poor coverage though.
5/21/2007 1:48:42 PM
I've had no issue with coverage on my Cingular phone. *shrug*Hell, it works out in the middle of nowhere and my friend is always having to use it instead of his Sprint phone to make calls unless he wants to drive a couple miles.

Some of the carriers have been increasing fees for text messaging (I believe Verizon is one of them, off the top of my head). This can potentially get you out of your contract, since the pricing was different at the time you signed it. Granted, they have provisions for that kind of thing but a lot of people are reporting success in using this as a bargaining chip.
5/21/2007 2:27:07 PM
Basically all the companies suck in their own special way, so just choose the least sucky for your situation.

I've been wanting to cancel my Nextel contract for about 6 months now but did not want to pay the ~$200 cancellation fee. I stuck it out and my contract finally ends in June so now I am looking for a new provider. I hear alltel just got bought out, so I don't know.
5/22/2007 5:49:01 AM
lol i hated alltel so much..was the first company i ever went with...back in like 2002-2003
5/22/2007 8:26:30 AM
Smath check to see if your on the prorated VZW ETF system. Depending on when you switched your contract you may have gotten on that (only been a few months since its inception). Basically they knock around $10/month off the full ETF for every month you have your contract, so it might not cost you the full $175 to get out.[Edited on May 22, 2007 at 8:51 AM. Reason : ]

For Sprint customers
8/19/2007 12:46:55 AM
If you bitch at sprint enough they will close your account and waive your final fees.

8/19/2007 5:00:05 PM
if you changed it within 30 days, they'll cancel it no prob.[Edited on August 19, 2007 at 5:01 PM. Reason : cingular lets you change up not down.]

death
8/19/2007 5:08:23 PM
that sprint thing is gonna save me $400, fucking sweet
8/19/2007 5:30:45 PM
generally, if you move to a city where they don't have service, sprint will release you from your contract[Edited on August 19, 2007 at 5:35 PM. Reason : omg grammar]

Alltel is great. I love Alltel, and you should go with them.I pay ~$60 a month for:1000 anytime minutesUnlimited night & weekendUnlimited mobile to mobile300 Text/Pic msgs.Phone InsuranceThat person talking about $150/mo. is crazy.
8/19/2007 6:13:38 PM
I looked into Alltel not once, but twice. But their painfully expensive roaming options killed it. I forget why, but the National Freedom choice plan wasn't an option for us. This was last year, and the national wasn't there on all plans. With GrandCentral, and setting 515-2011 as another fave, I wouldn't have used hardly ANY minutes.I pay $90/mo with Sprint for three lines, with text messaging on all and unlimited internet on mine.[Edited on August 19, 2007 at 6:23 PM. Reason : $150 IS fucking nuts.]
8/19/2007 6:22:19 PM
Another way, always another way.
8/19/2007 6:42:45 PM
I dont pay for roaming, unless I go outside my plans coverage area... but I always know if I'm out of my coverage area, so I just get a calling card. And usually when I go outside my plan, its to WV to ski, and no one has service anyway so not using a cell is not a problem.
8/19/2007 9:17:25 PM
when you re-signed for another 2 years, did you sign a hard copy contract? if so, ask them for a copy of it. say that you don't remember signing and want to see it for yourself. they may not be able to find it.
8/20/2007 8:54:46 AM
sprint (?) just shitcanned alot of customers who called customer service too often, because those were free calls for the user, but cost the provider.i've also heard that they will cancel you or let you out of contract if you use your phone alot in a place where you're not on your provider's towers, but you're not roaming. I'm not completely clear on this, but for Verizon, I don't think I have ever paid roaming charges, but I frequently end up using some other company's tower, and my "network status" message changes from "verizon wireless" to something else. If you call from those areas enough, they'll kill you because it costs them a fortune and you nothing.
