How can anyone listen to this shit? From the commercials people love the concerts! WTF?
5/21/2007 1:51:42 AM
If people can delude themselves about one big thing, deluding themselves about small things comes easily.
5/21/2007 1:55:57 AM
lumping 'christian music' into one category is pretty retarded too
5/21/2007 2:01:32 AM
Everyone has their own tastes. Christians might not like whatever music you listen to either just sayin
5/21/2007 2:06:27 AM
this is a good read on the subject. but yes, it totally sucks
5/21/2007 2:09:15 AM
It's mostly harmless, anyway.Even if the music can be unreasonably cheesy, you at least have a few vocalists like Jaci Velasquez around who actually have talent.Besides which, gospel can be really fucking fun to listen to.
5/21/2007 2:09:38 AM
Some of it sucks, some of it is really good. Just like other forms of music. If you aren't a Christian, I don't expect you to get much out of it.
5/21/2007 2:20:51 AM
reminds me of that episode of metalocalypse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPEkr0U98Iw here when they go to a christian rock show....the band is called prayer bolt.lawl
5/21/2007 2:37:03 AM
yea i thought about this again recently...i came across this facebook group that was started by christians basically bashing christian music for being so lame and talentless.and i thought they were ridiculous. it is just like any other type of music. there's plenty of amazing christian musicians out there. sure, some of the biggest bands in christian music are crappy, but obviously the same can be said of the "secular" or mainstream industry. and also, just like any other genre or niche of music, "christian music" can be exploited. some bands get by on very little talent but sing about Jesus so they find relative fame. the same thing can be said about the hordes of talentless teeny boppers exploiting good looks, or fashion, or hardcore bands exploiting talentless breakdowns, or whatever band in whatever genre exploiting whatever.

CTA listed some great onesYou can't possibly look at "Christian music" as a single genre. That's like saying "country music" and lumping Johnny Cash and Rascall Flats as one in the same.I can nearly promise you that if you heard Norma Jean (or similar) and you were into heavy stuff, you wouldn't gripe that it was lame.
5/21/2007 8:03:50 AM
norma jean pffttluti-kriss
5/21/2007 9:14:52 AM
oh yeah, listening to norma jean now makes ya miss luti-kriss.
5/21/2007 11:32:16 AM
You could consider a large majority of Sufjan's music as Christian too. Seven Swans is entirely devoted to his faith.
5/21/2007 11:35:08 AM
Faith +1 is awesome
5/21/2007 11:37:29 AM
I dunno, that new norma jean is hard as fuck.
5/21/2007 2:17:13 PM
Christian music is only good if it comes in Bluegrass form.
5/21/2007 2:20:37 PM
I was about to mention SufjanAnd Pedro the Lion
5/21/2007 2:22:00 PM
Depends on who you listening...their are of course as many varieties of CM as there is any other Music. Some CM is on point and really hot. You like what you like. I myself can't figure out how people get down to Country, Pop, Bluegrass, Classical...etc...but some people get down on it and love it. III
5/21/2007 2:35:18 PM
I'm a fan of all types of music...except that music that picks one line that is said pretty much throughout the song, and songs that are only about "omgah look at me Im hot and I have diamonds and cars"
5/21/2007 2:39:37 PM
^ You're not a fan of all types of music, then.I don't think anyone truly is.
5/21/2007 2:51:14 PM
Sufjan is awesome... but, other than Seven Swans and the Christmas album, I think he masks his Christianity references enough so that it's not distracting. I mean, he definitely talks about God and things of that nature, but a lot of artists do and he does so in such a fashion that it flows well within the song. I consider myself an agnostic, but I'm not put off by the manner he discusses his faith on Michigan, Illinois, etc. (and I know many others who feel the same way). I just chalk it up to something he draws inspiration from, just as some find it in drugs or whatever.
5/21/2007 2:59:27 PM
Haha, I used to love me some MxPx back in high school. But if you hate a particular genre of music, it's not going to be any different if the artist happens to be Christian or have Christian themes.
5/21/2007 3:06:58 PM
MxPx has gotten away from the overly christian tones - they're still there in some songs, but they're more socal punk now
5/21/2007 3:17:04 PM
In hs, this freind of mine went psycho christian. he tried to tell me how evil my music was, and gave me a chart breakdown of bands. It was comical. It would list someone like Soundgarden and list another christian band as an non-devil equivilant. He also watched the 700 club.
5/21/2007 3:17:55 PM
Mae is pretty good.
5/21/2007 3:19:36 PM
^^ the church i went to gave out the same pamphlets to parentsaren't all the bands on tooth and nail and solid state supposed to be christian?
5/21/2007 4:29:49 PM
Most of the artists in tooth and nail are Christians, but they aren't all Christian bands.
5/21/2007 4:57:47 PM
5/21/2007 5:08:49 PM
old school zao...now thats some good christian music
5/21/2007 5:44:09 PM

5/21/2007 5:48:43 PM
I hate labels. Does this mean I listen to pagan music? Agnostic music?I'm far from Christian, but I've had a few good friends who have put me on to some great "Christian" bands.[Edited on May 21, 2007 at 6:41 PM. Reason : hai laik!]

It's been argued that "God Only Knows" is the most beautiful pop song ever written. If that's not a ringing endorsement for Christianity, I don't know what is.
5/21/2007 7:30:08 PM
5/21/2007 7:46:05 PM
I listen to a decent amount. Some I would openly admit is extremely cheesy. Then there is some great stuff...Sufjan to name a modern one. Cash singing classic gospel might be my favorite thing to listen to.
5/21/2007 7:57:10 PM
mxpx is definately punk from the music sense...especially their oldddddddd olddddddddd stuff...straight skate punk...even worked with tim armstrong back in the day
5/21/2007 7:59:10 PM
^^^ No, but this is equally funny: http://www.lovegodsway.org/GayBands
5/21/2007 8:02:48 PM
well I don't know, just having God in the title doesn't always ring as an endorsement.see Joe Heller's God KnowsYowzah!
5/21/2007 8:07:34 PM
^x7 I didn't know Muth Math was considered any kind of "Christian band." Not that it matters, they're good as shit. Their drummer is great. It may have been said but I think of "Christian" bands and bands who's members are Christians as two seperate kinds of entities. I'm a Christian, but I'm by no means in a Christian band.[Edited on May 21, 2007 at 8:09 PM. Reason : ]
