where is a good place to find them used? Looking to spend around $400 to carry 2 bikes. Tried Craiglist but not really finding anything on there.

you won't find much for only $400.

Northern had a trailer frame for like $350 the other day. I don't know if two bikes would fit though.

That's a fine trailer, but there's no way 2 bikes would fit on it.

you dont think 4ft wide is enough? even staggering the bikes a little bit?
5/21/2007 6:47:28 PM
even if you staggered the bikes a bit, the 2nd bike will be falling off the rear-end. Look at getting a real dedicated multiple motorcycle trailer. I think I saw some aluminum trailers for about 700 somewhere a while back. This will work though, it's a little more than what you budget it for, but it will work and you don't have to buy extra stuff like wood/planks and such:http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=93747

To fit 2 bikes on that cheap trailer you would have to add extension bars on the front to tie handle bars to, but it should be ok.You can see what I'm talking about on this trailer, but you wouldn't have to angle them like that because the HF trailer is 96" and not 50" long.http://www.sportutilitytrailers.com/LongChih/832TA-2TS76M.htm[Edited on May 21, 2007 at 7:53 PM. I've used a 4'X8' home-made trailer to get two bikes to Asheville...it was a little hairy, but not bad. What size are the bikes in question?
5/22/2007 12:37:47 AM
if you truly give a shit about your bike, you wouldn't even want to put it on some cheap pos trailer. spend the money on a decent one. one that has a h.d. axle with suspension, tie downs, etc. pretty much a dedicated motorcycle trailer.

so like the one posted above; The motorcycle trailer frame is constructed of 14 gauge 2" W x 3" H steel U-Channel with black powder coat finish. Complete motorcycle trailer kit includes: heavy-duty leaf spring suspension, axle, hubs, wheels, tires, steel fenders, safety chain, DOT approved rear and side lighting, wiring, connectors, hardware, Certificate of Origin, Vehicle Identification Plate, slots in frame for 1 x 4 wood stakes, rails and ramps, step-by-step assembly instructions booklet, 1-year parts replacement warranty. Assemble with socket wrenches, box end wrenches, and channel locks or pliers. $456Is there a Harbor Frieght locally or is it just internet?oh and the 2 bikes going on the trailer. 01 929 and a 03 r6[Edited on May 22, 2007 at 9:10 AM. I got one of those $350 4x6 trailers from Northern. I had to make a few modifications including: a new tongue so it would sit level behind my bronco, extending the bed to 7', adding 3/4" ply decking, and moving the axle back 6". I spent around $400 total. It fit's one bike just fine; two sportbikes would probably fit, but it would be kind of tight.

My roommate (well, former now) just moved from Johnson City, TN to Seattle, WA. I helped him move and we took both our bikes on the trip. Here's a couple pics of the trailer setup we used:It's from Northern tools...I'm not sure about the size or specs, but it did great on our 2800 mile trek. The frame was $300, and we put the wood decking on ourselves. Bearing buddies were crucial, but we didn't have any trouble with the bikes. We used custom welded wheel chocks to hold the front wheel, and they worked pretty well for an el cheapo solution. We also just used some wooden ramps we made ourselves out of a board and a metal piece from Lowes. We added lots of handy tie down points. Canyon Dancers are awesome and save a ton of trouble, get them if you don't have them. Here's a pic of the whole rig at Devil's Tower National Park:All in all, a setup that worked really well for pretty damn cheap, although it involved some grunt work.

^ Yah, there is something to be said for that...wasn't practical this trip since we had to move my roommate's stuff. Plus, 3600 miles on a CBR600RR would absolutely murder me. Seat is not comfortable on that thing.I've been seriously tempted recently to trade it for either a dual sport or a touring bike (FJR1300's make me drooool). All my hardcore knee-dragging type rider friends just moved...one up to VA, my roommate to Seattle, and another to CA. Sucks
