*note there was a jewish movement to have a jewish state in israel before ww2. ww2 and the holocaust just made it a successful movement and put some powerful players behind it.iirc, it started gaining steam around 1900.[Edited on May 16, 2007 at 1:14 PM. Reason : .]

"Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him and make him fruitful and multiply him exceedingly; he shall be the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation."

Imagine world peace and prosperity if we just made all of the middle east a big fucking parking lot with crude oil wells.

I actually think this is an interesting question. The wiki link would have us believe "tensions between the Jews and Arabs started to emerge after the 1880s," but I've heard people talk about these centuries and centuries of hate...So exactly how much hate was there for these centuries and centuries? Or are people revising history and fabricating/exaggerating this old school hatred to justify and perpetuate the hatred they have today?

Civilizations get strong and conquer lands...it has happened all over the world.Even my country. For some reason, though, the fucking Arabs can't let that go. And want to kill innocents in the name of a religion which was probably written on a sunny day by a bored, friendless farmer, just like every other religion.

us and the arabs have had conflicts for centuries, just as any other differing ethnic groups that border one another. however, the zionist regime that has perverted israel is not making things better. Most issues had been resolved and us and arabs were living together in peace until post WWII when the secular zionist regime unjustifiably took control and started their message of hate.

I think there have been running tensions between the Jews and Muslims, similar to the sorts of clashes that Christians had with their Jewish populations (tolerance one decade, persecution the next).I think the modern, vehement hatred though started toward the end of the First World War. The war dismantled the unifying Ottoman Empire, sliced up the Middle East into colonial chunks, screwing up the borders and humiliating the natives. Resentment began to build up. Then, when a bunch of European Jews started moving into the region and eventually declared their own state, they picked up the bulk of the frustration and anger for colonialism.

^Yeah, today's sort trouble didn't start until the Middle East was colonized. That's not to say the Middle East was peaceful before that point, though.[Edited on May 16, 2007 at 6:09 PM. Reason : .]

Did Muslim states ever kick the Jews out en masse, as various Christian countries did back in the day?
5/16/2007 6:21:06 PM
No, they were very tolerant of occupied Jews. Mostly because they knew (unlike Spain) that keeping the Jews would benefit them as far as wealth and scholarship goes
