I've only found one body kit available for it (it is the new style btw) and haven't found any used/cheap performance mods at all unless you want to buy them new-suggestions?

i'd rock a diesel but a v6 is just lame.
5/16/2007 3:08:00 PM
do you really want to make that car less reliable?
5/16/2007 5:40:06 PM
you're an idiot if you do anything to that car besides scheduled maintainance and fuel.

don't do the damn fart can thing, chips are a waste of money and i dont know much about vw's but i highly doubt the motor can handle much boost anyways even if you did do a turbo kit.. not to mention can the tranny handle it?? it just costs too much to get a car like that to a respectable level.. soleave the poor car alone
5/16/2007 11:39:51 PM
well.... you don't know what you're talking about, so quit pulling shit out of your ass & we'll all be better off.that said... the v6 sucks, drive the car as an appliance & then throw it away. the end
5/17/2007 12:24:13 AM
then correct what i said.. it's all general info and true for most cars, its not like I said I'm 100% sure this is absolutely true for your car.Regardless it's a waste of time and money

sell it and buy something worth modding
5/17/2007 2:05:36 AM
I apologize for the length of the post. I really found a lot of stuff on the internet today that relates to this particular conundrum of the unmodifiable larger engine in a car once it is used and the argument for maintaining it as new has been obliterated by the owners' asking for places to buy mods for his nearly unmodifiable engine.the point of the following content: everyone here honestly giving the best advice in this case. They just sound like assholes because they haven't conveyed to you why its good advice when they say "leave the poor car alone" and "sell it and buy something worth modding." That's where a dude who doesn't mind writing a long ass post comes in. You should spend ZERO dollars on your car because if you sell it, you can get a 1.8T passat or a4 for roughly the same money, losing nothing, and then you can spend VERY LITTLE money to get MUCH MORE PERFORMANCE than stock, something you can't do with a 2.8L v6.It's a fucking long post. I'm sorry.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This thread made me go look all over the interwebs b/c I don't think I've thought about the 2.8L v6 since it was the big engine option for the a4. I actually forgot it wasn't the 2.8L vr6. (5-valve heads, what?! oh riiiiiiight.) This topic is everywhere and there's a consensus on the 2.8L b5's (passat and a4)Part 1-Don't mod your car. For sensible cash, you won't get anything worth your time unless you count making it louder. For silly cash, you won't get your money's worth.a-people do tastefully modify b5 v6 passats to make theirs specialhttp://www.istargazer.ca/b5/b5mods.htmnote that the only performance mod is a K&N replacement filter. Pretty wise choice if you ask me. Everyone who ends up keeping their car but wanted to modify seems to have done this mod or installed a conical filter.b-lots of people are out there just like you, who have looked and looked to take advantage of the nearly 3.0L of overbuilt v6. It's mostly in vain. The 2.8L v6 is a great jumping off point for forced-induction fans seeking a counter-argument to "there is no replacement for displacement" but need a non-japanese car to mention to make it sound credible. Most mods for your car absolutely suck unless you have more money than god and any incremental hp gain at all is worth it to you.

....rest of it.... I went over 10k characters. 2- You should sell your car and buy a similar one with an engine that will give you the performance you seeka-since you are someone that posted in TWW about looking for mods, you have certain needs that your car cannot meet unless you do some modifications, both for your own intimacy of ownership and because the car you own just isn't gonna cut it whether you mod or not.b-its VW's fault that there is no aftermarket for the 2.8. Offering the 1.8T took out the 2.8's used value (for modification) legs, and since the 2.7T s4 existed, there is already a nicely packaged factory turbo setup and there's no reason to go to the trouble of reinventing something crummier out of the 2.8L just so you can have the same package in the heavier front-wheel-drive passat. 500 hp s4s exist, and there are 1.8ts that get up to 400, some more, but I'm sure they lag like crazy. So that covers the spectrum of where any logical aftermarket tuning range would exist for the 2.8L, plus, even if you did go with the supercharger, then you'd probably get virtually identical performance to a stock passat w8 4motion! so there's just no point.c-almost everyone who offers worthwhile performance parts for your car offers similar or better value products for 1.8T (passat and a4). So even loyalty to a specific tuner isn't going to help you avoid acknowledging that you're passing up cheaper, stronger more logical modifications. I'm not even gonna list anything here. Go anywhere. It's absolutely true. apr, neuspeed, mtm. Just google "tuning for vw audi" or look around through any vw/audi forum.d- almost all b5 cars are within spitting distance of one another now in terms of cost, and it's only a small stretch to an s4 or a w8 if you consider what you're likely to lay out by the time all your likely mods are said and done especially if you compare to the cost of sticking with the 2.8 (whls tires susp exhaust chip superch). take your pick. Just running through ebay ... here's some kbb private-party values for 27612, using kbb's estimates for typical miles and options for the years given unless I otherwise indicated. I went newer on the w8 since it was later and the manual was another year later:2001 Passat GLS v6 auto-Excellent $9,020 Good $8,360 Fair $7,540 (74k)2001 Passat GLS v6 man-Excellent $8,440 Good $7,810 Fair $7,030 (74k)2001 Passat GLS1.8Tauto-Excellent $8,465 Good $7,835 Fair $7,055 (74k)2001 Passat GLS1.8Tman-Excellent $7,885 Good $7,285 Fair $6,545 (74k)2002 Passat W8auto Excellent $16,580 Good $15,520 Fair $14,195 (68k) (man n/a)2002 Passat w8auto Excellent $14,080 Good $13,020 Fair $11,695 (90k-maxmilesibetufind)(man na)2003 Passat w8 6-man Excellent $17,780 Good $16,615 Fair $15,135 (68k-typ4-'02) 2003 Passat w8 6-man Excellent $15,355 Good $14,190 Fair $12,710 (90k-maxmilesibetufind)2001 a4 1.8T fwd auto Excellent $10,730 Good $9,975 Fair $9,065 (74k)2001 a4 1.8T qtroauto Excellent $12,420 Good $11,580 Fair $10,550 (74k)2001 a4 1.8T fwd 5man Excellent $10,470 Good $9,725 Fair $8,835 (74k)2001 a4 1.8T qtro5man Excellent $12,160 Good $11,330 Fair $10,320 (74k)2000 s4 2.7T 6man/auto Excellent $15,175 Good $14,195 Fair $12,945 (79k) yes, same$ ests2001 a4 2.8 auto Excellent are you Good paying attn Fair thisda engine you tryin get ridda so my vote's for as perfect as you can manage a4 1.8T qtro 5manual with >74k miles if you can get the 9 grand or so for your car. And even if you can't, no matter what you can get for your car, you can get a passat with the 1.8T for the same or less. If you just love Passats, you can leave town for a week, leave it with a friend to sell on craigslist for a fair amount, have him find you a 1.8T in the same color and interior for about the same and you can pretend you never got rid of your old car.P.S.e-If there is absolutely no convincing you, then I did find this one sketchy thread about a guy who built his own remote-mount turbo kit for the 2.8. He says he's selling them on ebay for $2300, but makes no claims about performance, and has no website. And in 2007, if there's not even a website for a guy who thinks he can design and sell turbocharger kits, I'd very suspicious of anything he wants you to strap to the underside of your car from a guy who sells his kits through ebay without a warranty.http://www.audiforums.com/m_372217/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm#472129

now you're on the right trackat least if you want a car with any performance capability or something that lends itself well to modification (nothing at all wrong with your car...as long as you don't ask it to be something it's not).
