"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them."In the 1980s Jerry Falwell was an outspoken supporter of the Apartheid regime in South Africa. When president PW Botha was elected President by the White South African minority, Reverend Falwell went to South Africa and made statements supporting the government there and urging American Christians to buy Krugerrands, a coin issued by the South African Government[17]. He drew the ire of many when he called Nobel Peace Prize winner and Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu a phony. He later apologized for that remark and claimed that he had misspoken[18].In 1994, Falwell released the straight-to-video documentary "The Clinton Chronicles: An Investigation into the Alleged Criminal Activities of Bill Clinton." The video connected Bill Clinton to a conspiracy theory involving Vincent Foster, James McDougall, Ron Brown, and an alleged cocaine-smuggling operation. Despite the theories being discredited by all major investigations, the video's sophisticated production techniques served as effective exposure, and sold over 150,000 copies. In an interview for the 2005 documentary The Hunting of the President Falwell admitted, "To this day I do not know the accuracy of the claims made in The Clinton Chronicles," but failed to condemn the poor research.Falwell is a controversial subject for his theological, political and social beliefs. After the September 11, 2001, attacks Falwell said on the 700 Club, "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"Falwell remarked, "AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals." During the Civil Rights Movement Reverend Falwell was a supporter of racial segregation. He said this about Martin Luther King, "I do question the sincerity of People like the Reverend Martin Luther King..."Falwell often attributes political affiliation to the divine, claiming that God "is a Republican" [28] and Jesus "was the First American."Great man.

So, I wonder if he got blanked out of existance, or if he is in his first hours of the afterlife. I always think about that shit when someone dies. haha.
5/15/2007 2:24:26 PM
I look forward to hearing the GOP candidates offering their thoughts on Falwell tonight during their debate.
5/15/2007 2:46:43 PM
They'll praise him like Reagan?oh wow, that would be great to watch...
5/15/2007 2:49:59 PM
i didn't even THINK about that possibility.
5/15/2007 2:50:36 PM
its obvious that he died because god was punishing him
5/15/2007 2:53:19 PM
good riddance
5/15/2007 2:54:39 PM
5/15/2007 2:54:55 PM
On a political note, I wonder how his passing is treated by the candidates tonight at Fox News' Republican debate. Particularly the couple that don't see eye-to-eye with Falwell and if their opponents will needle them on that.
5/15/2007 3:17:06 PM
it's scary to me that only a couple of republican candidates running for president don't see eye to eye with this nut.[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 3:18 PM. Reason : r]

5/15/2007 4:24:54 PM
because you died and found it out, and then came back to life to tell us, right? i hate when people say such bullshit.YOU CAN'T KNOW EITHER WAY.
5/15/2007 4:29:16 PM
5/15/2007 4:33:15 PM
Thank God, and good riddance.
5/15/2007 4:40:58 PM
While I'm no fan of Falwell, all these "Good Riddences" do not reflect well on the lefty ideals of tolerance and respect for other opinions. I hope conservatives show more class when the next liberal icon kicks it.
5/15/2007 4:41:21 PM
One less fundie fucktard to embarrass the rest of the rational world.

Fallwell is the rights equivalent of Michael Moore, yet more offensive and much more powerful. (he has his own college!)[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 4:44 PM. Reason : .]
5/15/2007 4:44:01 PM
Pfft, liberals dance on the graves of their own heroes to win votes, so why should it surprise anybody that they dance on the graves of those they disagree with? Love, compassion, and tolerance my ass.
5/15/2007 4:48:20 PM
^ list some adjectives to describe him.no sentences, just adjectives.for eggreatcoolhorribleokpassionatekindheartlessetc
5/15/2007 4:51:18 PM
Didn't agree with him 100 percent, but he was passionate in what he believed and I had a lot of respect for him. I enjoyed listening to his sermons and watching his show. He had some great guests like Bobby Bowden who came on and gave their testimonies. I'm not surprised that CNN or those here would paint Falwell in such a negative light, given that the man just passed away.Besides, my respect for the man has nothing to do with the vitroil spewing forth from some of those here. I can personally say I wouldn't say such a thing about Michael Moore, Bill Clinton, or anyone else on the other side of the political spectrum. Falwell certainly is not the right's equavilent of a murderer like Castro or the guy in Venezuela.
5/15/2007 4:59:40 PM
we all need our high horses
5/15/2007 5:00:56 PM
^^he would say equally terrible things about people dying of aids.
5/15/2007 5:10:13 PM
Because saying it is as bad as somebody actully killing someone else. Brilliant! What do you mean Ronald Reagan? If I remember correctly his funeral was as standard, formal, and respectful as any other President that has passed away. Or are you trolling, again?[Edited on May 15, 2007 at 5:14 PM. Reason : ffs]
5/15/2007 5:13:54 PM
Westboro Baptist Church will protest Jerry Falwell's funeral.
5/15/2007 5:17:03 PM
5/15/2007 5:22:55 PM
Did Falwell say good riddance to anybody who died? He gave his opinion on why things happened, just that, nothing more, and the last time I checked, it's perfectly fine to have an opinion in this country. Besides, he didn't dance for joy or the like when he made his comments, and certainly wasn't happy about it. Evil is in this world, and Falwell's comments aren't going to change that. He did a lot of good work with his evangelizing and preaching. I think he is right, to a point, that those he opposed are not for the gospel that he believes in. How many devout Christians make up the ranks of the gay community, hardline feminists, leftists, abortionists, etc.?

5/15/2007 6:44:20 PM
yeah, that's what i was thinking, his compass is broken.Person A: homos, liberals, feminists are bad, and God's scourge will befall them, and has befallen them!Person B: (after A dies) thank God person A is dead... good riddance.prep-e: Person B is far far worse than Person A based on what they said!
5/15/2007 6:44:38 PM
^^
5/15/2007 6:52:36 PM
Im not saying "good riddance" but the guy was a piece of shit.I would find it ironic, and possibly humorous if when he died he all of a sudden found out there is no heaven, hell, god, satan, or anything else.
5/15/2007 6:59:21 PM
we can always rely on Wlfpk4Life and prep-e to bring the stupidand good riddance i say
