already described it in another thread but here goes againgot some property with a junkyard to one side, looking some trees to cover up by placing a line of them along the roadleland cypress was my first though as they are wide and grow fairly fast, bradford pears have also been mentioned but they are susceptible and damage prone plus not an evergreen anymore ideas? and anywhere i can get some for cheap?? prices would help as well

wasn't this exact thread made like a week ago?

Bradford pears are not prone to pests, but I think they are ugly as sin. Go with leyland cypresses. You can get them at any garden center. The bigger they are, the more expensive they'll be.

Home Depot. Elm.

I think bradford pears look nice...but they smell like nasty pussy in the spring
5/9/2007 9:49:43 PM
Bradford Pears smell like fish if you get enough in one area.It fucking sucks.
5/9/2007 10:03:21 PM
they only smell like nasty pussy because their blossoms smell strongly of sementhe front of my new house is flanked by leyland cypress treesand there's a willow tree in the front yard

If you plant a tree (like Bradford Pear), you'll still be able to see under it year round. Plant a broadleaf evergreen and you'll still have the same problem. If you still want another option, you could go with some large shrubs that max out their height at 10-12' as opposed to the cypress' 40'.E:some of these are good for screening, they're even labeled for you. there are a lot of options, but bradford pears are one of the worst things you can plant, if you want cheap and local try an extension office or the arbor day foundation. Park service maybe able to help you out as well. Most of these will be small but they should grow quickly.

bradford pears also tend to completely explode with the slightest of ice storms.leland cypress ftw[Edited on May 9, 2007 at 11:03 PM. Reason : ]

leland cypressno question about itone bagworm treatment usually protects them for life
5/9/2007 11:15:47 PM
bagworms suck ass
5/9/2007 11:19:27 PM
Leyland Cyprus are susceptible to some disease problems like cypress canker or bagworms.Bradford Pears will completely break at the crown after about 15 years and are just overly planted and an invasive non-native species.Try maybe some Japanese Cryptomeria...or Thuja Green Giant? Both evergreens. Also if you ever drive down Western Blvd you'll notice a huge line of Southern Magnolias...they are not limbed up so you don't have to worry about leaf droppage b/c it all falls under the canopy and out of sight. Provides a nice screen.[Edited on May 9, 2007 at 11:28 PM. Reason : sm]

arbor day foundation sells trees cheap - it's kinda on their schedule though, so it's not as convenient, but you can get LOTS of trees for less than $100 (total, not each) since they give you I think 12-14 just for joining, then it's usually less than $15/tree after that
5/10/2007 10:51:52 AM
you can get seedlings really cheap from the division of forest resources
5/10/2007 10:55:55 AM
leyland cypress or golden bamboo.
5/10/2007 10:56:48 AM
SEEDLINGS ARE CHEAP BECAUSE THEY ARE SEEDINGS!If you want a screen now, you better buy some big shrubs and let them grow a few years. If you plant seedlings, you'll have to wait 10-15 years before you have anything screening the view. You'd be better off to just wait for the junkyard to close shop and move away. Either suck it up and buy some decent plants (NOT BAMBOO OR THUJA) or build a fence.

try here, they have a decent and quality selection http://www.maryjanesgarden.com/

Willow trees grow remarkably fast (the energy of the future!).

I found a really great place to get trees for free. You should try it out. It's called:The woods.
5/12/2007 6:52:23 AM
yea, the woods. lol! seriously, you can just go look around near a species of tree you like and find little babies and dig em up. I wanted a pecan tree and surprise surprise, there were about 50 little baby pecan trees in the woods near my old neighbor's pecan tree. That's just how trees work, man. serious.
