So..I am planning on painting my bedroom furniture from a really light wood color to black and to cover a few things on the dresser and chest (the furniture was when I was a little kid).

Any suggestions? How long do you think this would take? I think I am going to try to do it next week.

Depends a lot on what finish is on there now.
Is it real wood? If yes, does it have a clearcoat? No clearcoat, paint away. If it has a clearcoat then sand it to rough up the paint a little and then paint.

I painted an antique cabinet years ago and it is holding up well today.
