I would like to schedule a cruise for my girlfriend and I later this summer (late July - mid August). The only cruise I have ever been on was with my family when I was in 8th grade. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

I would also like to know what the market rate is for a 5 day/4 night cruise and what is considered a good deal.

Any other little tidbits would be helpful too. ex: Avoid certain places, etc.

Thank you fellow wolfwebbers

just got back from a 7 night cruise, was $499/person, we went to the Western Carribean. Twas fun. I made a thread about it in the lounge.

^not really necessary, we booked our cruise less than 2 weeks before the sail date.

I just went on a cruise at the beginning of the year and the only thing I disliked was for 4 days it was a different island every day (which seemed like a good idea, a lot of different places) But the time on each island was so short I could not really do more than shop at the local docking areas. So my advice is, if you are going to be stopping at various islands, find a cruise with only a couple stops and enough time to explore. That way you can relax a little more and do things more at your convienence.

$499 per person for a 7 night cruise in the caribbean? That sounds really cheap but that is why I am trying to find out what people usually pay for cruises - so I can have a good idea of what the market rate is.

I'm going on a 9-night Caribbean - Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Dominican Republic, and Haiti in two weeks. It's with RC, and was about $1,000 per person. It's not the length you're looking for, but it gives you a comparison. We're leaving from Maryland instead of Florida, and we booked a couple months ago.

There are a bunch of cruise threads already if you want to look through some of those for more info as well.

Oh, and one reason we decided to go at this time of the year was that a few weeks later it was about twice the price, so you will probably be paying quite a bit more.

How long does "Book Early" mean?

1 Month?

2 Months?

6 Months?

Thanks for all the advice so far - good stuff.

Since you're looking to go in the next 2 - 3 months, I'd book soon. The only way you'd benefit by waiting longer is if all the rooms don't get booked and you get a last-minute deal, and I wouldn't count on that happening during the busy vacation part of the summer.

Bermuda is always more expensive than Caribbean. Could never figure out why...
