I'd like to hear about people's gardens, whether they're vegetable, herb, flower, rock, whatever...

I went out this weekend and got alot of herbs for my window boxes from Lowes... they were $3 a plant tho, which seems expensive to me Any ideas on when or how often to harvest herbs to freeze or dry?

2 gerber daisies (potted)
3 camellias
vincas and petunias mixed in pots and window boxes
two struggling dahlias (potted)
two indoor viney plants--one is a dwarf of the other, unknown but it's a very common one
another indoor viney plant, unknown but it's a very common one
one relative of a palm tree, origin unknown...it was a gift...my office building has a lot of them around but i still dunno what it is
4 amarillias, 1 indoor 3 outdoor (potted)
one outdoor viney plant, unknown but survived the winter to my amazement (potted)
one potted gardenia
9 day lillies in window boxes that i have sitting along the railing of our back deck to provide additional privacy
one lucky bamboo
4 pots of paperwhites (indoors)

i have basil, chives, and rosemary in seeds that i'm planning to grow inside. i may do them outside as a bed border though...not too sure yet.

Lots o' peppers, lots o' herbs. I dry about half of my herbs and I pretty much harvest them when I'm bored or when I want to plant new stuff, which I'm sure is not the best method

Tomato (Better Boy + roma)
lettuce
Green peppers
hot peppers
peas (field, lima, Kentucky Blue Lake)
sugar peas (whatever the damn things you put into stir fries. Damn those things are tasty, tasty, tasty)
Beans (Kidney, string, and black)
onions (red / bunching /vidalia)
basil
broccoli
spinach
swiss chard
taters
corn, early and late
pumpkins
watermelon (sugarbaby)
sunflowers/zinnia/marigolds/random other annuals
parsely
carrots
radishes
oregano
crookneck squash
zuchinni (1 plant that I'm half-hoping will die )
beets
garlic

Everybody should have a tomato plant on their porch. They're easy as hell to grow, and nothing is better than fresh maters.

surely you can taste a difference between what you get at the grocery store during winter and a nice juicy one from the farmers market in summer...?
I know I can.

I havent really tried lots of different tomatos tho. All I know is the german johnsons do have an intense flavor..meaty but juicy too.
