Help! My parents, aunt, uncle & cousins were all supposed to be vacationing in Italy this week. Two arrived in Naples, three are en route after many delays on Delta and the last one is somewhere separated from everyone else.

I tried calling my parents at the hotel, but the hotel concierge only speaks Italian.

How do I say "I'm trying to reach (name) at your hotel, please connect me to the room"??

I know "mi famiglia" and "la camera", but I can't figure out how to say the last name is either under this last name or that one...and get a connection. D'oh!

The concierge probably speaks English, but is being a bitch about it. Unless it is some really seedy hotel, there is probably(99% chance) someone who speaks enough English to help you.

^^the hotel we stayed at in Rome for 1 night (Because it was the worst hotel and we wouldn't have lasted a week there) had no one that spoke english there....but since everyone in my family speaks italian it wasn't a problem. Unless they are staying in a big chain hotel like a Marriot, Hilton, Shereton, Intercon etc etc...chances are they really don't speak english.

Hell i stay at a hotel in NYC that is own and run by italians and even they don't speak english

^That's not true, I have stayed in some fairly remote(non-touristy) areas in Italy and I have never stayed anywhere where someone didn't know rudimentary English. Though I have never ventured further south than Rome, so I guess it might be different in southern Italy.

Was obviously what I was talking about, not about his experience. But you knew that.

^Yeah, but chances are that is wrong

A large segment of the population knows some English. Since English is the lingua franca, the vast majority of hotels have people who speak English.
