Anybody taking ECE 302 this semester who has Greene? How is he as a teacher? Of course I would have just used the school tool but this is Greene's first semester teaching it, and there are no reviews.

B Greene, I would assume that is him yes. Seems like all he has taught before this is senior design classes...this semester seems to be his first teaching 302, Im trying to decide between him and Barlage, though Greene would be a better fit for my schedule....[Edited on April 26, 2007 at 12:35 AM. Bart Greene is a cool motherfucker.I dont know how well he will teach the class. if it's his first time teachign a formal class, it may be interestingBut he's a great guy.

I'm in his 302 class now. He is a really nice guy, very approachable, and generally pretty reasonably. However, it does show that he has never taught the class before. He generally just goes through examples that are already worked out in the book, post "notes" that are equations straight out of the book, and has absolutely zero supplemental instruction to that of the book. We had no practice exams or old tests to go by. He just gives you a rough outline of what to expect on the test. Our class test averages have been 67, 56 (and that was AFTER he completely dropped on of the problems), and 86 (I think he must have felt bad for us). I'm not sure if he is actually responsible for making the tests, but he is responsible for adequately preparing us for them. I have heard him say that he will adjust the grades at the end of the semester if the average is too low, so hopefully we won't end up too badly. My friend had Barlage last semester, his personal test average was over 100 , and generally had a much better experience than what I am having now. Like I said, Greene is a great guy personally. Very reasonable, obviously has a lot of industry experience, and is super approachable. Perhaps still a little wet behind the ears as far as teaching 302 is concerned, others seem to really like him. I don't know if this matters to you or not, but he does not have a Ph.D.Take all of this for whatever you would like.

Thanks, that's just the type of info I was looking for, anybody else have any opinions?

You won't learn anything if you take Barlage's class, his teaching style is very confusing.

Bart is a great guy, i cannot comment on his 302 teaching but he was real easy to work with in senior design. obviously very knowledgeable about industry.

well its 302 ...no matter who teaches it it still sucks

i agree with all posts in this thread.-bart is the man and is very approachable and helpful-302 sucks no matter the teacher-i'm yet to hear anything good about barlage-it'd be interesting to see bart teaching a formal class. i would definitely take him if i were you.

hmm, i somehow skipped over that line. well...from people i have known that have taken barlage, they didn't have anything good to say. he subbed in for hauser one day in my 302 class and it was as bad as hauser...which is saying something.if barlage's class is supposed to be really easy, i might be tempted to opt for that as i never needed anything i "learned" in 302 in the rest of my college or professional career. i guess it depends what direction you want to go though...

Barlage is awesome, he is the man. Also gave me a nice recommendation.
