Thanks...that thread was totally useful! I'm going to Swansea, if anyone has any personal tips. Oh, can you get a flight directly to Cardiff from NC? I'm worried about making it to Swansea going through London with all my stuff and not really knowing the system. I went to the UK once in high school, but we were only there 4 days.

I flew from RDU to Cardiff.

It went RDU -> New York -> Amsterdam -> Cardiff -> SLEEP

As far as I know, the only nonstop flight to those parts from RDU is Raleigh to London, and it ain't cheap.

I almost went to do some CHE but decided it was too early. Might go there or somewhere else one of these semesters though. What're you going for, biology?

the american airlines flight from raleigh --> gatwick is my preferred flight to the UK - non-stop and times convenient for a) getting on trains when you arrive, b) arriving to your destination, sleeping the rest of the day and going out that night

it's honestly not bad if you take the AA to gatwick option - the train station is AT gatwick airport and you just have to walk there, buy a ticket (BUY A YOUNG PERSONS CARD ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) for the train that gets you to swansea and then just haul your shit around when you switch trains.

I know that there's a gatwick to bristol train that has 1 stop at Redding, and from Bristol there's a non-stop train to Swansea - not sure as I've never had to directly go from Gatwick to Swansea but this might be the route they put you on - 2 stops isn't that bad and the Bristol train station is quite easy to navigate

the rdu to lgw is a nice flight, but you'll be up for about 40 hours straight since you arrive at 7 AM (12:00 AM EST). top o' the mornin.

I flew the rdu-london gatwick flight then you take a train from gatwick to victoria station and from victoria you can take the train directly to swansea(swansea is the last stop).
