this is kinda for me (or at least some ideas to pass on to my maid of honor, if she's stumped) but mainly for another friend who is currently planning a mutual friend's party.

we're looking for "fun" places to have a large dinner group. not super expensive (aka, not sullivans or anything else super-high end), but something with atmosphere and good food. she's planning on moving the party elsewhere later that evening, so this is not an "all night" place we're looking for.

sushi blues came to mind, but they already eat there a lot and wanted something different.

I would recommend Michael Dean's, however, since they moved, it just isn't the same

You can rent out the corner bar at Hibernian on Glenwood South, its very cheap and really good, and you get your own bar and bartender.

My fraternity used to do it, with all food included and a free bartender for your every need, for around $300. You split that up between all your friends, and its great.

Another thought, 18 Seaboard next to Peace College is awesome, and they have a deck above the building you can see all of downtown. Probably $20 or less for a meal, and it's real good. The deck is small enough for you to ask about reserving for your friends.
