I am moving and have some old computers around that I used for parts here and there and want to get rid of them... whats the best way to destroy the hard drives so someone cant dig them out of the trash and look at my porn uhhh I mean, banking records?

Unless you work for the CIA or something, any physical damage to the platters in the drive will be enough. In fact, I would imagine disassembly would be sufficient. No one is going to bother to try and reconstruct the thing.

go to your local gun range, launch them in the air, shoot them down with a 12 gauge shotgun. Works like a charm. Personally, I disassemble and take the aluminum bearings out since they are pretty cool. Then I'd probably throw the platters at a few friends for shits and giggles.

^Takes too much time. I had some several boxes of tapes, zip disks, and hard drives that needed to be destroyed before we could toss them out. The hammer did it to some extent, but it took forever. So I got a fucking sledgehammer and destroyed them that way. That was quite fun, but made a big mess when the tapes and other plastic shit just exploded all over the parking lot.
