as i was contemplating getting a console for light gaming, this article popped uphttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070420/ap_on_hi_te/games_vista_s_visuals;_ylt=AjDc1DcfL1onzFsNpNhHwn5U.3QAso i think i'll just stick to the box
4/22/2007 9:48:42 PM
gaming between the 2 really isnt all that comparable. id liken it almost to comparing arcade boxes to anything else. different styles of games play better on different machines, they offer vastly different benefits, etc.
4/22/2007 9:53:54 PM
i like 1st person on pc everything else on xbox i'm not getting a ps3 till grand tourismo comes out
4/22/2007 9:59:17 PM
Nothing new, PC always has been and always will be the cutting edge of graphics, except the brief window when the new consoles are released. The only problem is that top end PC graphics cards alone cost as much as a console.

i got 4gb of ram pushing a 1536 memory card...shits like a ps4 or something
4/23/2007 12:50:34 AM
i found pc gaming more of a hastle than it was worth a lot of times. a lot of times it is the developers fault, but still annoying. that and im always on my comp as it is, so its nice to move elsewhere to game.
4/23/2007 9:31:20 AM
yeah, you cannot really lay on your couch and play with your keyboard & mouse.... xbox ftw
4/23/2007 11:40:56 AM
i can't snipe as well with a d-pad.mouse ftw in 1st person shooterseverything else... xboxand i'm getting better with the d-pad
4/23/2007 11:44:29 AM
i was about to get an xbox until i tried to play call of duty on ityou cant play that on a controller
4/23/2007 12:11:54 PM
It still amazes me how anyone could play a FPS with a gamepad. I still won't play Gears of War for that reason. I think it detracts from the immersive experience when you're trying to line up a damn shot with a d-pad. Hopefully GOW will be on PC someday.Hopefully someday I will own a PC that could run GOW.
4/23/2007 12:52:23 PM
it still amazes me how pc fps fans just don't get that console gaming is more popular than pc gaming and that a fps on a console fucking owns the shit out of sitting 1 foot from a monitor, when console gamers can sit back on 40-50 inches of hdtv. and if it amazes you that a fps can be played with a d-pad you are just out right silly.[Edited on April 23, 2007 at 1:15 PM. why do you need a link when it is obvious that consoles sell out at launch and that more games are known to regular humans other than fps's.

a mouse is for handicappers fyi, i feel as though i am almost just as good with a d-pad as i am with a mouse. head shots are the biggest difference. i bet if you played with me you would think i would have a mouse or wish that i had one![Edited on April 23, 2007 at 2:15 PM. Reason : fgjh]

you think pc's are more popular than consoles for gaming? ahahaha
4/23/2007 2:43:44 PM
^ I don't recall saying that.
4/23/2007 2:45:26 PM
I prefer consoles for most things.PCs for MMORPG, RPS, and RTS, Simulations.I'm sure I'm not in the minority.
4/23/2007 2:48:13 PM
PC's will always be superior to consoles except in ease of play. Fact is consoles are plug and play and if that's what you like... all the more for you.I like refined controls, I like the choice to play on 1 monitor or two or three. And the comment about not being able to play on a HD TV... uh... you're an idiot. And no you don't have to use keyboard and mouse. There are PC versions of every single gamepad out there including 360 and ps3. Wireless or not. The different comes down to ease of play. It's easier to just sit and play a new game on a console. you put it in and walla. But it's EXTREMELY limited by the console where as games developed on a PC environment are not bound by those limitations. A SOLID video card runs $150, not $500. If you compare the 360 to anything do it with a 7900GT or an X800. The newest videos card chew the 360 up for breakfast. You're just fooled because you suddenly hook it into your HDTV. Well... hate to break it to ya but you can do that with your computer relatively easily. You can also check your email, play music, browse web pages.... Oh... you can do that on the xbox360? Guess you didn't realize that consoles were cheap versions of computers did ya.
4/23/2007 2:56:16 PM
I will at least concede that console gaming is more mainstream than pc, popularity is not a very tangible thing, unless you define it by sheer sales numbers. PC gamers are often a different type of gamer altogether. And ^, I agree totally. You console guys can have fun with all your game mods and extra levels and user created content to extend the life and fun in a game, on that console, oh wait, no you can't.[Edited on April 23, 2007 at 3:00 PM. ^yeah i was about to lit into him but i see others have done it quite well enough already.... console = stripped down purpose built computerthat said i enjoy both.... but 'being good' at something like halo or GOW is more about how well you can use the controller... not about how well you can play the game.....yeah.... ill just plug in my computer to a HD projector and get a 12' screen to frag your ass on.....
4/23/2007 3:18:12 PM
and here i thought it was more about resolution then distance from the screen & screen size lets just put it this way... i'd never join a console "clan" ↑ [Edited on April 23, 2007 at 3:25 PM. Reason : .]

4/23/2007 3:55:39 PM
whomever in this thread thinks pc gaming is more popular than console go in ebgames and watch how many console and pc games are bought. this would do more than clarify which is the most popular.

^^ you have to admit (well, you don't, but you really should) that basing the popularity of console vs. pc games in the country as a whole on a single day at ebgames is pretty dumb...it tells you absolutely nothing[Edited on April 23, 2007 at 5:33 PM. Reason : .]
4/23/2007 5:33:03 PM
i never said which is 'better', and which 'better' is extremely relative.
4/23/2007 5:34:16 PM
I'd also agree that console games are more popular by volume of sales than pc games, but I'd say that pc games have a better advantage (usually) at replay-ability with mods and expansions. Look at CS, DOD, and such. Although, you have to hand it to the xbox live multi-player feature since it makes it easy to play with friends online without any real big hassles.I don't like consoles because of the limited playability, high priced games (at least on recent/new consoles) and that their features are mainly based on playing games. With a gaming pc, you can get away with having a budget gaming box for under $1000 and still play every game on the market currently. Not only that, but because it's a computer, you are able to use it for other purposes such as video editing, photo editing, 3d rendering and such. Yes I know that you can put linux or have a full fledge OS on modded xbox' or ps's but the percentage of people that do that kind of stuff is slim. Until a console comes out that pretty much is a computer out of the box with all the same features/usability as one (edit, content creation and such) I think I'll stick with computers. Ps3 comes close, but I don't think you can install content creation software right out of the box or can you?And I like to multi-task on dual monitors[Edited on April 23, 2007 at 5:36 PM. Reason : ]

just know that if and when console and pc gamers can play together on xboxlive we will see just how much fun we both will have. yeah you may have slightly more precise aiming with a mouse, but i too have a methodology of playing with a controller and i know the game. so if you think you are just going run over top of me, guess what? you are wrong.^ now that i think about that argument is flawed but not for the reason that you are stating, but because mario what free with console, and had it actually had to be bought there is no telling how it would have sold.[Edited on April 23, 2007 at 5:53 PM. I grew up using a mouse and by cracky that is the right way to do it. As soon as those no-good Japs quit attacking our harbors and get to inventing a better way to play Doom on my Colecovision I'll stick to my left-clicks and my WASD.Now get off my lawn!
4/23/2007 5:53:23 PM
well, yeah i understand. i say a console is better for me, and the next man could say the pc is better. really it doesn't matter, since it only leads to a perpetual argument that serves no purpose because it is fundamentally flawed because you cannot argue against a matter of opinion and expect a rational conclusion that satisfies both parties.
4/23/2007 6:02:36 PM
The fact that a mouse is more precise really doesn't help the fact that movement is still controlled via WASD. Playing with the keyboard is ridiculous. A stick is so much more fluid. Now if you could only combine the movement with a stick and the precision of a mouse...When the wii gets the fps controls perfected I think we may have something like that on our hands.

isnt the wii the exact same architecture as a gamecube with a higher clock speed?how is that innovative again?
4/23/2007 10:10:58 PM
I'm pretty sure they were arguing that the control system is the innovative part...
4/23/2007 10:15:37 PM
^ that's what i was arguing, yes^^ "better graphics" is not innovative...it's an upgrade the exact same thing it had before...i tried posting the definition for you guys, but you apparently missed it:innovative: being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created beforeno one is claiming the graphics on the wii are comparable to either the ps3 or the 360...but the graphics are simply an upgrade to what was there before...the actual game play associated with the hardware is practically the exact same as the 20-yo NES, while the wii has actually done something "innovative"i'm not trying to turn this into a console war...if you want to spend massive amounts of money for the exact same gameplay as on the previous systems (albeit better graphics that come with the REQUIRED television purchase), then go for it...the point of this thread is to debate the merits of the ps3/360 vs. a PC and in no way can you claim that either of those systems is more versatile than a PC...as mentioned before, the introduction of DX10 and supporting games (very few at this point), the performance gap practically disappears and the only thing consoles have going for them (be they wii/ps3/360) is simplicity that comes with such limited machines
4/23/2007 10:40:06 PM
I realize this is a pissing contest but I will join in anyway...1) If I was really big into FPS, I'd want to play on a PC that can keep up with the latest consoles, but the price of graphics cards alone is enough to keep me away. 2) 4GB of ram might be nice when you are doing some serious video editing, but it is not helping your gaming performance. No current game is going to take advantage of that. The important stuff that is stored in RAM is on your video card anyway.3) How many PS3 titles are actually in 1080p? I don't know the specific numbers but I'd bet that its far less than half. 4) You can turn the 360 off with the controller. Sure you can turn your computer off with the mouse, but that's not my point. My point is that every time I play Smash Bros. on the Gamecube I scream profanities at Nintendo for making me get off the couch.
