My '98 Honda Civic just failed inspection. They wanted to do a lot of crap, so I just passed on it all since one of the parts they were going to need was on back order. I'm not sure if all the stuff caused the inspection to fail or if some of the stuff they just noticed when doing my free 40 point inspection. I assumed all prices were parts + labor.Issue #1: My blinker was out. I knew it was out because it was blinking very quickly as of last week. The Auto Park Honda in Cary said that it was blinking quickly because of an incorrect marker bulb. I informed them that it never blinked quickly until the blinker bulb blew but they kept insisting it was because of an incorrect market bulb and wanted to charge me about $30 to replace both. They also had the nerve to say "maybe you just never realized it was blinking quickly"Issue #2: Wiper Blades $42. This seemed like a huge ripoff and because of this I opted out of pretty much everything they wanted to do to my vehicle.Issue #3: Air Filter $35Issue $4: Muffler $265I don't know shit about cars and just want to avoid getting ripped off. Thanks.

if your wiper blades are bad enough to fail inspection how do you drive in the rain?its all of 20$. Go to autozone before you rear end some innocent person in the next storm

Yeah, they tried to rip you off. Where was that, so the rest of us can avoid it?

Nah, once you get a job and a life, you'll find that it's not worth the time and trouble. I realize this will not be popular in the garage, though, since it's like a hobby for most of you.

Well, some simple stuff like swapping wiper blades, a filter, and a bulb shouldn't be the end of the world. Maybe a partial weekend project, even to those least experienced with cars and fixing them.[Edited on April 21, 2007 at 9:40 PM. Reason : RE: Job + Life = No free time]

wiper blades are like $5 each, and they're trying to charge you $42 for it? I think Jiffy Lube are doing the same thing. That's damn highway robbery.

I'm pretty sure that wiper blades are a thing they fail people on just to make some $$$, not because it is actually wrong.

Move to South Carolina.

ok, look at the printout they gave you for the inspection. It will say what you failed and what you didn't. Wipers, go to autozone and do it yourself. Takes 2 minutes. you *can* fail inspection because of itBlinker, go to autozone, look up the bulb and do it yourself. Takes 10 minutes if your corner light is not easy to get to. you will fail inspection if one is out.Air filter, I don't really see how this can cause you to fail an inspection. regardless, go to autozone, get an airfilter, pop the hood and look for the black square box. Use a philips head screwdriver to open it (97s may just have pop off holders) and replace it (one side goes down)Muffler, again, I don't see how this can cause you to fail. Catalytic converter? Yeah. muffler no. If you need one, call up any muffler shop in the yellow pages and you'll get a new one installed for $100.
