Has anyone interned here before or is anyone going there this summer? If so, please tell me how your experience was.

I interned in power delivery and ended up working after school in nuclear generation. It's alright I guess. Where are you looking to intern?

if anyone can find me an old "Duke Power" t-shirt or anything like that, I'll pay you for it.

I interned in the Environmental Engineering group and it was ok. I learned a lot and had a pretty good time.

i knew a few of the engineers and interns in power delivery and I think they had a decent time to.

Also knew a kid in the Nuclear Engineering intern program and id say thats what the most put together program is. They got to go on a bunch of tours/field trips and seemed to have more responsibility in what they did on a day to day basis

I think if you are working for anyone else other than the nuclear program it is up to your boss more or less what you will be doing. Ask them and im sure they would be happy to give some examples or explain.

Overall id say Duke is starting to try and get more interns because their workforce is getting old. They are really looking for people to take over jobs etc. The planning that HR does for the intern gatherings and socials (things that allow you to meet other interns) was really starting to increase when i quit

oh yeah they pay pretty well too!!!

I'm contracting for them right now. It's not a bad place to work. They pay pretty well.... What ^ said is true, they are looking to hire a bunch of people b/c most of their workforce is on its way out....

Now is a good time to get into the nuke industry, too. It's really going to start taking off in the next 5-10 years, so having that much experience when the demand REALLY ramps up will = $texas.

yea i interned there, the pay was pretty phat, but i really didn't do much during the summer. I mean i pretty much drove a truck around and verified power delivery maps were accurate. I actually liked it because it was really easy and i drove around by myself all day listening to music. Not sure if i could do it as a full-time job though, but i'm not sure if my experience is the norm. I will say it seems like a decent company to get involved with, and after interning i'm sure you could work in a different department that might be more exciting. do they do energy trading?

yea they do energy trading. My first summer and half of my second summer in power delivery I did the same thing. Like ^ said it was extremely easy, but cool cause i was by myself and could do whatever as long as I got the maps done. After that I started shadowing the power delivery engineers for a few weeks and finally at the end of last summer I was given my own jobs to design and estimate.

yea, actually engineering the circuit updates was pretty cool i guess, but it got pretty boring. I'd be interested in energy trading though, i wonder who i'd contact about that....of course i wouldn't want to do it for a couple years probably.

the pay was very very phat for a summer internship though

I'm interning at the nuclear plant on Lake Wylie. I am pretty excited because that is the kind of work I want to do. I just wanted other people's input on the company or intern experience.

Yeah, I filled out the online application and talked with someone in the company who told me to put them down as a reference. Haven't heard anything for a few weeks. Anyone know who to contact and see what's up?
